Possible conflict for renewal

#1

Post by huaco »

My license expires in early September of this year. I expect to see my renewal notice in early March. Is that realistic? I figured I would take the class in April but I'm bid on a job that will have me working seven days a week with unpredictable breaks in Louisiana for three months. It could start any time in March or April as far as I know now. I'd like to get this out of the way asap if possible.

Can I take the class any time less than six months before expiration which would be early March even if I don't have the notice yet? If the job starts in early March and ends around early June and I have to do it then am I cutting it too close? As I understand it turnaround times are running about 60 days, my first time it was 83 days. Which way is it going?

Yes, you can take the class any time during the 6 months before you expire, but not before then.

Make sure your instructor can supply you with the photo card holder, fingerprint card, and affidavits if you do not have your DPS package.

Isn't your TR-100 good for a year when you do the initial application? I wonder why they limit renewals to six months.

Good question, KB. Don't know the answer, though.

I DO know that DPS has suggested we tell new students they have to get their paper work in no later than 6 months after the class, but they will accept it up to 12 months.

The initial TR100 is good for two year's

You can still be a renewal for one year after your expiration date and the renewal TR100 is good for six month's or until the one year anniversary of your expiration date.

If a license has been expired ten month's when the licensee get's the renewal TR100 then the TR100 will only be good for two months.
