What if something does happen? I do need advice, but am going to stay really low under the radar.Thomas wrote:I would definitely NOT get publicly involved. You should stay under the radar, and it doesn't help the organization to have broken the rules on a gun-related matter. This OP needs to be deleted here. Last thing this kid needs is a anti, a acquaintance of the dean, a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy, etc. to contact the school or the Campus Police to inquire.

This isn't true. ANY written form, to be legally enforceable, must contain the 30.06 language. Handouts or business cards don't need to meet the sign requirements (letter size, etc), but must contain the same language. ORAL (i.e., spoken) notification does not require any specific language.KingofChaos wrote:Effective notice doesn't have to be a 30.06 sign. 30.06 only applies if you are posting signs. There could just be a doorman hanging out business cards with a notice on it, and that would be valid I believe.snatchel wrote:Is the parking lot 30.06 posted? I'd do just what others have said, stay under the radar. At this point there is nothing you can do about it and just have to let things take what ever course they take. If the school decides to do something about it then start looking at your options. In the mean time I would try not to worry about it. Yes, I know, a lot easier said than done. I know I couldn't.
I wouldn't change your every day routine as that would imply you knew you were doing something wrong.

Too bad campus carry didi not pass this year. Being a student I suspect you are subject to the whims and rules of the university. You did the right thing reporting the gun stolen. Sometimes we do the right thing and have to endure the results. worst comes to worst there are other schools out there.

Are you on any type of work study or work opportunity where you receive a check from the University?
Re: Need Help!! School related
Most likely, you will receive a call from the deans office and a meeting might be set up with someone regarding the situation. Are you a senior? Im guessing you are since you meet the min legal age to have a CHL. If you are, i seriously doubt they will kick you out of school since you are close to graduating if that is the case. While it will be hard to focus, focus on school and studying. If they want to discuss it with you, let them initiate.
What i am curious about is why exactly the detective had to notify the school? Maybe im missing something here but i dont understand how a theft is the schools business unless it was the universities PD that is handling the situation.

Not jumping on you, but to avoid this type of situation I park off campus. Granted, my campus is a bit smaller than yours, but I walk the extra 5 minutes and park on the public street rather than trying to wiggle my way around finicky, subjective laws to park in the school parking lot. Besides, I dont wanna pay the $100 bucks a semseter to park closer.

UT Dallas does operate their own Police Department - and the OP did say it was the "campus police" that investigated. That's probably why the Dean's office will get a copy of the offense report.cubbyjg wrote:What i am curious about is why exactly the detective had to notify the school? I am 27 and I graduate in May. I'm just staying under the radar. I'm an honor student and am taking 19 hours. It would just be wrong if they did anything, imo.cubbyjg wrote:Most likely, you will receive a call from the deans office and a meeting might be set up with someone regarding the situation. Yeah, but. Next time, park off campus or obey the rules of school.GrandSporTA wrote:I am 27 and I graduate in May. I'm just staying under the radar. I'm an honor student and am taking 19 hours. It would just be wrong if they did anything, imo.

Or get a gun safe/lock box and cable-tie it to your seat frame out of sight...if you find out it is ok to park with it.n5wd wrote:

Actually....I don't think the college can LEGALLY prohibit guns from vehicles in the parking lot. Under what basis would they "enforce" a rule that has no legal standing?
