Concealed carry at high school graduation??

Should know this one but have not had to have the experience so -- does anyone have a clear understanding of concealed carry at a high school graduation? 1) It is not a school sporting event; 2) it is not an interscholastic event; C) it is actually not at a school (rented facility).

JMPHO, but it is a school sponsored event and if they are renting the facility then the facility is under their control... I wouldn't carry there at all...

Went to Grandson's high school graduation last Friday in Arkansas. And nope, didn't carry.
What I found interesting was that they made everyone leave umbrellas outside, but never checked for "concealed" weapons. Go figure!

DON'T DO IT! Unless you are craving a free ride in the backseat of a police car and posibily spending some time at the "Iron Bar Hotel". School sponsored events are off limits regardless of where they are held. In this case pepper spray is our friend.

PC §46.03. PLACES WEAPONS PROHIBITED. (a) A person commits
an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly posesses or goes with a firearm, illegal knife, club, or prohibited weapon
listed in Section 46.05(a):
(1) on the physical premises of a school or educational institution,
any grounds or building on which an activity sponsored by a school or
educational institution is being conducted, or a passenger transportation
vehicle of a school or educational institution, whether the school or
educational institution is public or private, unless pursuant to written
regulations or written authorization of the institution...

Think I would refrain from carrying, just to be on the safe side.

There must be a nuance here that I don't grasp. How can a school district vote to allow it's teachers to carry, but cannot vote to allow other CHL holders who are not teachers to be able to carry. IOW, if a school is a "gun free zone" then how does a school have the ability to vote to allow it's teachers to as in the Harrold school district?

School districts can allow CHLs to carry on campus with written permission. The school board can give the teachers written permission, but no one else. Written permission doesn't have to be a blanket permission for everyone. However, I don't see why they couldn't give written permission to a non-employee if they wanted to.

Actually, I seem to recall reading that the written permission had to be specific to a person and could not be a blanket permission under current Texas law. I don't remember where I saw that, so I have no way of backing that up.

Yup... thats what I am trying to get at too...if they have the freedom to allow written permission for some employees, why do they not have that ability for some non-employees!?

No no, The Penguin never killed anyone with his umbrella, just caused them to black out from the gas it emitted. Kinda like me after a big Mexican dinner.

And, I would definitely not press the issue of school sponsored function with a graduation ceremony, even off campus. I think the ruling in court would not be favorable.
