Looks like you better find some place beside CVS:pbwalker wrote:That may be the case, but the fact that Walgreens acted on it is what bothers me. Businesses may *have* to put this in their manuals per legal. But they have the discretion to enforce it. If they want a no weapons policy at work, that is their right. But in this situation, where the pharmacist had to choose between life and death, he chose correctly. Walgreens did NOT have to fire him. If CVS were to do this, I would express the same outrage.

Pharmacist Fired From CVS for Using Gun to Thwart Robber
I know! It's hard to make a principled stand in a world where you can't even buy stuff that directly keeps you alive without violating your principles.40khammer wrote:I'm never shopping anywhere again!BrianSW99 wrote:Looks like you better find some place beside CVS:pbwalker wrote:That may be the case, but the fact that Walgreens acted on it is what bothers me. One wonders if an "exemplary record of safety" includes two robberies and multiple larcenies occurring at just one of their locations. If so, then their standards are abysmally low. I would answer Benny H's email with that question.wo5m wrote:I also sent then an e-mail and got the following replyDear David,
Thank you for contacting Walgreens regarding this matter. Our policies in this area are designed to maintain the maximum safety of our customers and employees.Store employees receive comprehensive training on our company’s robbery procedures and how to react and respond to a potential robbery situation. In past incidents, employees have told us they’ve found this training effective. These policies and training programs are endorsed by law enforcement, which strongly advises against confrontation of crime suspects.Compliance is safer than confrontation. Through this practice, we have been able to maintain an exemplary record of safety. We’ve made significant investments in security technology in recent years, including increasing the number of digital surveillance cameras at our stores. With upgrades to security technology, we are able to provide police with high-resolution photographs and video of crime suspects. We continue to invest in state-of-the-art security measures and high-definition surveillance equipment and hope that the apprehension of robbery suspects in the Benton Harbor area will prevent future crimes. Thank you for contacting Walgreens to share your comments.
Sincerely,

Wow, that's really sad that he was fired before the cops even arrived. Too bad the manager that fired him couldn't have been the one getting shot at that night.....Dragonfighter wrote:Where I used to shoot, there was an employee that used to be a night manager at a commonly known convenience store chain. He had been robbed before and shot at and started to carry as a matter of routine. He was robbed one night, complied and was then fired upon. He returned fire killing one and either wounding or running off the other. He called 9-1-1 and his area supervisor. He said he was fired before the police got there. I am ashamed to admit that, though rare, I do have occasion to visit these establishments. I guess I'm a hypocrite.
On the pharmaceutical note, most of my recurring RX's are from TriCare Online Pharmacy. My acute needs are handled by a local, single owner, compounding pharmacy. I have it on good authority, though not verified, that the owner carries.
