The only time I got ripped off was when my bank made everbody switch to Master debit cards instead of plain ATM (or pay stupid fees), and I used it to pay at a restaurant. You know, waiter takes it away, comes back later with a receipt for you to sign. Somebody used my number to order a couple thousand bucks worth of stuff from a truck stop pay phone a few blocks from the restaurant just a couple hours later.

So I swipe it myself or pay cash.
I never use debit...

When my bank switched my ATM to debit Visa/ATM I called them and had my daily debit limit set to $0. So, the card still says VISA Debit, but I can't charge anything on it..

Debit is evil. :evil2:

I usually sign Clint Eastwood. And have occasionally signed, "I stole this card" Not once has anyone ever noticed.

It appears my OP has suffered "identity theft" . It was about the person's obvious bias, misconceptions and ignorance about CHL holders. I have to admit I enjoyed reading all the posts. I have known too many LEO's in my lifetime, including Chiefs, to have believed any of what she said about being a peace officer. My "partner" who is actually my twin brother engaged the woman to no avail and she did seem to pull back when he responded to her no carry comment by informing her our grandfather was an NYPD Detective from the 20's to WWII and was required to carry at all times.

If this was at the clearlake store I know who the lady it would be that would make such a comment. And she is no rocket scientist.

It is so tempting to respond to a moron like that with an education in the CHL license being a legal ID, but Eric Scott (edited to correct last name, oops!) was supposedly doing much the same trying to educate another moron on the legality of his carrying inside costco mere minutes before his life ended. Just food for thought.

Never thought about that, but at any rate; like my dad always told me "Never argue with a fool." :thumbs2:

McKnife wrote:I hope this doesn't sound rude, but when I am confronted by situations where retailers request my ID and/or want to verify my receipts and purchases, I simply tell them to mind their own business. I've been in retail and they are very intrusive.

When it comes to checking ID/Phone #'s/Zip Codes, I estimate 90% of the time I am met with "deer in headlights" look by cashiers and I complete my transaction without any further chitchat. The other 10% of the time, retailers will insist on checking ID and I tell them no. They will not process the transaction so I either pay with cash or I leave for their competitor. It has potential to be inconvenient, but I am sick and tired of trying to prove I am a good guy.

If I am ever "exposed," you said it best... don't argue with fools. Simply ignore them and carry about.
they are actually subject to a fine if you report the retailer for asking for ID, and refusing your purchase to your credit card holder

Edit

some one already beat me to this I didnt want to read the entire threat at first, oh well

On a related topic, I have probably signed hundreds of those "private club" cards at restaurants just to buy a beer with lunch or dinner. I always thought that those local dry laws were hokey, especially since it was such a prefunctory process to obtain the requisite card. I have signed every one of them, very clearly, as Mickey Mouse. No one has ever so much as grinned at me. I don't think anyone even looks at the cards again and they probably drop thier copy in the garbage on the way to get the beer from the bar.
[Insert pithy witicism here]

Proudly carrying since 09/10.
