Pasadena Gun Show

#1

Post by Mancunian »

Today was the first time I ventured into the public arena with my concealed gun. Interestingly enough, it turned out to be a gun show. I went to try and purchase a decent holster (no luck). Anyway, as I approached the entrance there's a sign saying "No loaded guns beyond this point" or words to that effect. I turned around and went back to the car to empty the mag and returned. Now am I right in thinking because there was no 30.06 I could have legally gone in loaded?

I thought long and hard about going to the Pasadena show, too. But the sanity check of "keep your wallet in your pocket" prevailed. I have my discretionary dollars for Christmas earmarked for a new 1911...it's just proving to be difficult getting something I really want delivered before next May.

Someone far more expert than I will have to comment, but my take is that you absolutely could have gone in loaded. The 30.06 would have been required to keep your carry outside, and that would have been impossible since it was a gun show.

One hopes the organizers were simply reinforcing that folks displaying guns for sale would understand anything to be handled would need to be unloaded. Duh.

Sure you could, so long as the sign you saw was the only notice provided.

Any written communication must use the specified language in PC 30.06, but verbal notice can take any form.

If there isn't a 30.06 sign, you were legal to go in.

I've been to a few gun range lobby areas and gun shops that have wording similar to what you're referring to. I think signs like this are trying to keep loaded guns off of the counters of stores, and out of the unknowing hands of employees.

Look for the 30.06. Usually, there is one posted. I seem to remember that at Pasadena it was on a teepee board outside the door with red letters on a white background (the facility itself is not posted).

I believe the Convention Center is owned by the City of Pasadena, therefore any such 30.06 sign would be illegal.

I was there on Sunday. There's literally only one booth selling guns. The rest are selling knives and beef jerky. What a show!!!

Pretty much the last time I will be there except I go there to pick up some gun from my dealer.

I mentioned to someone at the Pasadena gun show I was looking for a holster and he said there was a better chance at the big show coming up in Houston. Where and when would that be anybody?

Thanks,

I recommend disarming at gun shows for the same reason I recommend you keep your finger off of the trigger until you're ready to shoot--it's a safety thing with me. I am more afraid of someone with poor gun safety skills shooting me than a bad-guy.

That said, I don't mind anyone carrying under their license at a gun show. However, if that gun sees the light of day, I would hope that person would be prosecuted for failing to conceal. If the muzzle got pointed at anything other than a safe direction, I'd add reckless endangerment to the charges.

Even without CHL, one could carry a loaded rifle or shotgun legally. Frankly, if the people that run the gun shows did not have safety rules such as these, I would not attend.

That's the way I see it.
