Definition of "veteran" for CHL fees?

I've produced my DD214 at multiple Home Depots and gotten the 10% off. I've heard that Lowes is a by store policy.
A little off the topic of the CHL fee for Veterans but that question is answered. Honorably Discharged and got my CHL fee discount. I wish I wouldn't have procrastinated though. If you apply within a year of being discharged, than the fee is waived I believe. Last I heard/read.

If using a DD-214, you will need the "Member-4" copy, not the "Member-1" copy. The word HONORABLE actually has to appear on your DD-214 for them to except it.

About ones DD214. I retired in 1989 and one of the important things they told me was, Go to the County Registration office (where one goes to Register to Vote) with a copy of your 214 and Register it. That way if something happens one can always get a certified copy of thier DD214.

What I have found is that Home Depot and Lowe's honor Active Duty and "Retired" veterans everyday with a 10% discount. They only have to produce their Active Duty or Retired military IDs. For all other veterans, they only provide the 10% discount one or two advertised times a year (e.g., Veterans Day or Memorial Day, etc). For these non-active duty and non-retired vets, you will be required to show your DD214.

...not quite right...I get the 10% at Home Dippy every day...didn't make me drag out my DD214...I told them I served 2 yrs active and 4 reserve and was Honorably Discharged...sounds like different stores might have different ideas of the policy...

I stand corrected...... You are absolutely right regarding Home Depot....

As for Lowe's, my local store does limit the everyday 10% discount to active-duty and retired military.

I always get the 10% off with my DD214 at Lowe's, located on 646 near I45 in League City, without limit of any kind.

Perhaps, as someone mentioned earlier, the 10% vet deal for all purchases is a store by store experience, but so far neither Home Depot (where I primarily buy hardware and is very easy about the vet discount - so much so that most checkers will simply take your word for it) nor Lowe's has quibbled about it for any purchase I've made and I make a lot of them...

Just on a side note. Most of us that have retired and are retiring now are being told NOT to have a copy filed with the local courthouse. Once it is file there it can be requested by anyone and used for identity theft. Just a heads up..

That was always my concern, but it is repeated as a "good idea" so often I sometimes think maybe I'm just being paranoid. I'm glad they are not telling folks that anymore, your 214 has lots of info on it and is one of those things that can be used as a secondary ID at lots of places.

I think that's active and retired only. Others have to go to the Vet Records address give earlier.
