Do you have a reference to the Dems' 2004 map? I'd love to use it in some Facebook tit-for-tats I'm engaged in.
In my opinion...this would only serve to further erode our 1st amendment rights by lending credence to the idea that either party did anything wrong.

The kind of hyper-sensitivity displayed over what was clearly meant (by BOTH parties) to be a FIGURATIVE symbol is just crazy. There was nothing onerous about either the bulls-eyes or cross-hairs, they are simply widely recognized symbols used to call attention to "targeted" concerns.

How anyone could spin this into meaning it was a HIT LIST is beyond me..... and tells me we have in Washington...a certain number of people, despicable in their nature.

When will the voting public learn? Elections have consequences!

I was just downstairs talking to my wife who was listening to NPR and a discussion about AZ gun laws and told her that I would bet we'd see somebody start up the gun control bills. No surprise.

I'm just amazed that someone would have the guts to try and piggyback a bill in on somebody else's tragedy as a backdrop. Seems to be poor taste to me unless the person who got shot consented.

Then again, we are talking politicians...

I have to believe theres another alternate agenda item behind her thinking.
New York City arguably caused her husband's death by denying him and the others the right to carry a gun and the ability to defend themselves from attack.

She, Chuckie, Mikey et al won't accept that NYC's existing laws did not prevent the madman from shooting up the subway.

It's their city, they can run it however their electorate allows. Me, I won't be going there.
I totally agree.

However in this case in Arizona people are apparently free to carry.

So how can this type of situation be prevented? How can we keep obviously insane people or people who use illegal drugs or both from buying a gun to kill a bunch of people in a go out with a bang media event?

I'm afraid John Q. I'm not a Gun Guy isn't going to continue to stand for this forever.

Pennsylvania Rep. Robert Brady, a Democrat from Philadelphia, told CNN that he also plans to take legislative action. He will introduce a bill that would make it a crime for anyone to use language or symbols that could be seen as threatening or violent against a federal official, including a member of Congress.
Imagine the irony of this. Rep. Giffords just read the First Amendment on the floor of the House three or four days ago, and now this bozo wants to pass an unconstitutional law that restricts speech. We have got to get the people of this country to understand that they cannot elect idiots like this. They are destroying this country.
Why just public officials? Lets legislate away threatening language or symbols against anyone. Wait a minute, isn't that already illegal?

Megan Kelly just had Rep. Brady on her show on Fox and made that same point. There is already a law that prohibits threatening any public official. The only difference in his bill, by his own representation was the symbols. Kelly was a little too PC because she did not ask him directly if this was targeted at Sarah Palin but she did mention both Palin quote and 2004 Democrat use of a symbol directly.

To say that Rep. was less than eloquent and completely unpersuasive is the most charitable representation of the matter than I can offer.

I seem to recall Nancy Pelosi saying two years ago, that they would pick their own timing to introduce gun control measures. Guess they were waiting for a congress-critter to get shot.

Methinks more intensive mental health screening and more disqualifying factors on ATF 4473 form is the most likely outcome of all this. Most of the non gun folks I've talked to continue the refrain "guns should be more difficult to buy" - only a few have mentioned high cap mags etc., though they are out there.

This story details the mental health issue http://www.time.com/time/nation/article ... tml?hpt=T2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
