Not carrying, no need to show CHL

The man in Houston who was stopped by police and identifed himself as a CIA agent and presented CIA identification along with his drivers license, did not present his CHL. Supposedly the police when they ran his ID found out he had a CHL. This alarmed the officers at the scene as they suspected he was wanting to hide his CHL status. Of course when he suddenly drove off and they chased him, this alarmed them some more. When the driver ran out of gas he exited the vehicle with his cell phone. He dropped his cell phone and when he reached to pick it up was shot and killed by the police.

I have forgotten a lot of the facts in this case, but I think he was calling 911 on his cell phone as he felt the police officers were fake and this was a "hit". The police suspected he was posing as a government official, as they felt a CIA agent would not need the states permission to conceal carry. More reasons they were alarmed.

The CIA would not confirm or deny he was an agent for them. His widow is now in litigation with the City of Houston. The widow has presented evidence that he did indeed work for the CIA.

So I will always show my CHL to police officers when asked for ID. But I will not show them a CHL badge as I don't have mine yet.

THE SECOND TIME I WAS STOPPED WAS BY A STATE TROOPER. AGAIN, I WASN'T CARRYING BECAUSE I WAS LEAVING WORK. I GAVE THE STATE TROOPER BOTH MY DL AND CHL. I WAS ASKED TO GET OUT OF MY VEHICLE AND TOLD I WAS FOLLOWING ANOTHER CAR TOO CLOSELY. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, MY CAR WAS SEARCHED CAUSE HE DIDN'T BELIEVE I WAS UNARMED AND I LEFT WITH A CITATION.

Did he request and recieve permission to search you vehicle?

Something about this story doesn't sound right. The officer would need at least probable cause that a crime was being committed to search your vehicle (in the absence of your consent), and presenting a CHL and saying you are not armed comes nowhere close.

A coworker was not carrying IIRC but did not show his CHL to the officer and basically the officer chastised him hard. I'd just show it even if not carrying to safe yourself the trouble. But I'd have to ask, why are you not carrying if you can do so legally?

Though not all positions are secret. He could of been an analyst, expediter or field supervisor and not necessarily undercover.

Added in Edit: The LEO's ignorance was appalling. CIA officials are not LEO nor under auspices as in the case of FBI, ATF, etc. They don't operate in the LE arena at all. I would presume it is likely a fairly easy process to get authorization (operations for example) to carry but it is not a blanket policy and plausible deniability is the order of the day should you be discovered.

How about in some of our neiboring or close states? There are different "inform" clauses and I believe there's a couple in particular (Mississippi & Arkansas) that had no present in bold! Is it more trouble than it's worth to bring up CHL in those states if stopped while traveling for some reason? How about in that other country, Illinois?! Naturally, we won't be carrying in that state, but may be traveling w/weapon to arm back up in friendly states... Best to keep CHL ID on down-low there?! Do their checks spill the beans?

i saw that vid of a Cia agent getting shot he went to his car to get something so they shot him. last i heard prez bush was unsporting the cia agent . I think Id a CIa person shows his badge he should be let go no questions asked. Same with FBI. I think or executive police officers have to much power and we are mortally losing them to revenue generation policies.

I think FBI and CIA agents should have the exact same right to carry as the citizens who pay their salaries. If Texas Peace Officers can disarm citizens for officer safety, they should definitely be able to disarm feds too. The feds kill more innocent people than CHL holders.

Say man do they pull your plastic for not telling them. In some places the changed the law that you get reprimanded. be nice if we had a Official chl body to talk to.
