I don't understand why anyone would lock up the pistol while they're driving if they have a CHL.Westfield wrote:I don't understand why some people have problems showing their CHL to an officer and look for legal loopholes to avoid showing it. Re: Show CHL?
Here is my rationale: I go to a medium size private university and carry on my drive to school. The parking lot is not posted but just to be safe I park in the non-university owned parking whenever possible. Sometimes the parking is full so I put the gun in a lock box under my seat just before going onto their parking lot. The police on campus seem a little ignorant of the laws and the fact that I could carry on the property as long as I'm not on the "grounds" (building or part of a building) so long as no school activities were taking place outside on the grass. I guess I figured they might just ask for my student ID to verify I was a student there and not run me in the database. I was trying to avoid a legal hassle that would possibly ruin my education, even if I was in the right and could beat the charges.

Sheesh! I sure hope we can get Campus Carry passed this session. You shouldn't have to worry about showing your CHL to a campus cop, though I suppose a private university could still post 30.06.

The way to fix that, by the way for anyone who might be listening, is to write it so that any school receiving state monies cannot post....

Re: Show CHL?
I was pulled over by the Bedford police last week and I gave the officer my CHL as a courtesy before she was told by dispatch that I had a CHL. I could hear on her portable radio that disptach was telling her that I had a CHL, and she already had it in her hand. It seem to please her that I offered it to her before being asked for it.
She asked me what I carried and where and we started talking about the Ruger LCP vs the Kel-Tec. She told me she bought a Kel-Tec as her back-up weapon. We were very pleasant to each other and she sent me on my way without a citation.

Re: Show CHL?
I agree-I would rather take my chances and lie to a campus police officer that disclose that there is a gun LEGALLY concealed in my car. I am convinced that any student would be expelled, and arrested for legally having a gun concealed in their car. Disclosing is just not worth the risk anywhere near a public school or university.Lonest4r wrote:Here is my rationale: I go to a medium size private university and carry on my drive to school. While I respect your right to your own opinion, your response demonstrates that you did not read my post very carefully. I was not going to lie to the officer in any way. Also, I attend a private university not a public school. Oh, and you can get arrested without breaking the law (there is specifically one forum member who will attest to that). Some officers don't even know what the laws governing CHLs are.Embalmo wrote:I agree-I would rather take my chances and lie to a campus police officer that disclose that there is a gun LEGALLY concealed in my car. I didn't say that you would or did do anything, I stated that I would rather lie than disclose a weapon to a university police officer; it's easy to misunderstand a post, so you should probably never take that tone with another member.Lonest4r wrote:While I respect your right to your own opinion, your response demonstrates that you did not read my post very carefully. I think we just have a small misunderstanding. I thought your tone was sarcastic in your original post because of the CAPS and the overall structure of your response. I thought I was attempting to be civil in my response to you. I guess we just were on different pages. Apologies!
