XD,

Good for you, stopping the threat. I used to work in the area and i'm glad I don't anymore. It's sad when even the cops who live in the complexes on apt. row over there have their cars/apts. broken into.

Stay vigilant in Katy-it's not that far removed!

Thanks for posting your 'event'. I re-read your description several times. There is a lot of abstract stuff on this forum (not that I mind any of that) but when the rubber hits the road, I learn much. Glad that you are only shaken from this event. All the best to you.

I wonder what he meant by that comment.

I'm sure he meant that, had he fired his weapon, the assailant would be off the streets, prevented from harming other persons.

Whether in the hospital, in jail, or dead, I don't think he cared which of the 3, just that any of them would be a good outcome to him.

WOW! I'm glad to hear that you are okay. I'm also glad to hear that you were able to deter the BG without having to pull the trigger. It goes to show that having proper training can help you evaluate your situation quickly, and potentially keep yourself from shooting if you don't have to. Good job my friend! :clapping:
I hope they catch these guys before they can commit any more crimes, or hurt anyone else. :tiphat:

Excellent S.A!!!

Always great to read about fellow citizens foiling the unlawful intentions of the scum within our society. I'm willing to bet a dozen doughnuts that the dirt bag in question is having a serious internal dialogue about his target selection methods.
In reality, the post title could easily be 'Used my weapon tonight'.
Absolutely.

It doesn't get much better than stopping a threat by merely presenting the firearm. While dead criminals ARE the most effective way to prevent recidivism, it is also a pain in the rear for the honest citizen shooter.
In practice I am definitely not as fast but I think that muscle memory worked in my favor
Fast is good, but having a smooth and deliberate draw you can do correctly EVERY time is better than a FAST draw you dork up from time to time. I see it in IDPA a lot where some dudes fail to clear their cover garment properly because they are going toooooooo fast, while others ALWAYS clear their cover garment properly because they focus on being smooth and deliberate.

Luck to you, and hopefully the thug gets caught....or ran over by a freight train.

I am amazed that you had a guy 6' from you and quickly advancing with a tire iron at night  and you managed to keep your cool, draw, and make a split-second decision not to fire. And you claim to not be fast. That 21' knife guy should get to know guys like you! I'm really glad you're OK and were so well prepared.

xdfanatic, your judgment and control under stress is very impressive. Let me add my "Thanks!" along with everyone else for taking time to share your experience. Your story is a wake-up call for me -- very helpful. Best of luck to you and your girlfriend in your new digs!

:iagree: I probably would have fired and later wished I hadn't, especially if his buddy made it a point to look me up. But you gotta do what you gotta do, based on split second judgement.
