They don't have any leagues shooting handguns there on Saturdays, but it is a pretty popular range, and Saturdays are necessarily one of their busier days. But it is a large enough range that it could probably accommodate a pretty large group. Some might have to share a lane or something, but that's OK. It's just about getting together and having a good time.Hoi Polloi wrote:I looked up Elm Fork but I couldn't find a calendar on their page saying if they had leagues or anything that would limit availability on a Saturday. Anyone know what their schedule is like? If not, I'll call them to ask.
DFW get-together was a BLAST! Planning for next one now!

I'm perfectly willing to share a lane if necessary. I figure most of you can work on the little dot in the center of the target, while I work on the rest of the target.......

I can do Garland Public Range and Jacob's range (I prefer to shoot IPSC there, more fun). Elm fork is of second choice.

My wife and I live in Austin but we would love to come up to Dallas (and spend a night) to meet you all and try some different pistols. We can bring a Beretta 9mm Px4 storm (full size) and a S&W 38 special airweight (637) and we are happy to let anyone try them. We've been looking for an excuse to come to Dallas for a weekend.

Re: DFW get-together - Come one, come all!
Pending my work schedule, I work most Saturdays and do not know until two weeks before, I would look forward to this.
Edited to add: I have gotten my schedule for that day, and I am off, so I am planning on being there.

Mine isn't the Scout model, it's the full length Loaded model.... but yeah, I could bring it if you bring the ammo. It prefers bullets in the 150-168 grain range.Keith wrote:Elm Fork sounds good to me also. Annoyed Man your not going to bring the Springfield Scout

OK, I think we largely have consensus on location. How about date and time?

Elm Fork's hours of operation are 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday. I'd suggest planning to meet at opening time because the range is very popular and shooting lanes will fill up fast during good weather.Hoi Polloi wrote:OK, I think we largely have consensus on location. No date will be good for everyone, but this doesn't have to be a one time event either.
I'll throw out Saturday Sept. 18 and Saturday Sept. 25 as proposed dates. If everyone expresses a preference for one or the other, I propose we go with whichever date works for the most folks.

What was the issue at Quail Creek? The Annoyed Man wrote:Saturdays work best for me, as I often have church obligations on Sundays that take a lot of my time. Location-wise, I'm for Elm Fork, although Alpine would be OK. I categorically refuse to spend another penny ever again at Quail Creek.
I can bring the following and will let people try them:
I may need help with the ammo - especially the .44 magnum - if there are a lot of people interested. Also, I have no .380 on hand, so if you want to shoot either the Colt or the Keltec, bring your own.
- 5" Springfield Loaded .45 ACP
- 3" Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II .45 ACP
- 4" Kimber Pro Raptor .45 ACP
- 5" Taurus PT1911 .45 ACP
- S&W Full sized M&P45 .45 ACP
- Glock 19 9mm
- S&W 642 .38 Special
- S&W 640 .357 magnum
- S&W M&P340 .357 magnum
- Colt Government .380
- S&W Model 29 .44 magnum
- Ruger 4.5" 22/45 Mark III Hunter .22 LR
- AND a Keltec P3AT, in case anyone is considering buying one and needs to be dissuaded ( ).

Saturday the 18th is our big Skeet Day (viewtopic.php?f=87&t=37398" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Re: DFW get-together - Come one, come all!
Both the 18th and 25th are great for me.
I have never been to Quail Creek. Elm Fork is nice, 20 mins from my house.
It would be fun to get together once a month or so, invading a different range each time.
