How full do you load your weapons?
In the spirit of recent postings I have a question to pose. How full do you guys load your carry weapon?
I've started keeping only a handful of 2-3 rounds loaded in my carry gun (empty chamber of course) because the extra rounds weigh so much. I read on another forum that most defensive shootings only take 2-3 rounds and my gun is so much lighter since I've started doing this.
I had a fourth round but I drilled it out and keep it on my keyring now. It looks awesome.

There will always be prayer in schools as long as there are tests.

I keep mine empty to scare away the BGs. The rest I made into an awesome necklace.gigag04 wrote:In the spirit of recent postings I have a question to pose. How full do you guys load your carry weapon?

Good idea! Simply rack the empty slide. That sound would send even the hardest of criminals running to their mommies. If it doesn't work just do it again.WildBill wrote:I keep mine empty to scare away the BGs. I keep my weapons full (unless its unreliable that way ex. steel AR mags loaded to 30rds). While you might only need a couple rounds for most encounters (which are rare) it may take a significant number of rounds to put some people down, and if your gun goes click and the threat is still coming ( thick clothing, big dude, PCP, or just darn stubborn) your going to get a real terrible sinking feeling. 2-3 rounds might be enough, but I know if the threat is within the average distance (7yds) I'm not gonna stop shooting until the threat is down, or a more immediate threat appears, which I can't imagine happening in less than 4 rounds.
Plus you might miss.

That is not my strategy. If they try to grab my necklace, I bonk them on the noggin with my Sig SS40MT.gigag04 wrote:Good idea! Simply rack the empty slide. I have actually considered swithing to an all metal blowback style airsoft 1911. That way I have the look of a gun, the ability to make the awesome racking sounds, and its fairly lightweight. If the noise doesn't scare them off (not likely) it still has enough heft that I can throw it at the BG. If I have to do that as a last resort, I am only out about $60. For home defense I have a VERY loud whistle.

Re: How full do you load your weapons?
I only carry 11 bullets in my Glock 30, but that is only because that is all I can fit into it. I do carry another spare mag with another 10 'just in case' If they fail I swap to my BUG with 8 in it and 7 in the spare, Ok they are smaller rounds but I figure it would only be doing 'mop up' duties .
Seriously though my take is 'Fill 'er up' or at the very least be able to correctly guess how many bullets it takes to stop an unkown number of bad guys :)

Re: How full do you load your weapons?
I have decided to switch to the Speer Plastic Practice Rounds.
They are powered by a pistol primer and are designed to fire a plastic projectile, but I carry them with just the primer.
To me, this seems to combine the best of all the options.
1. Because they are empty and plastic, they weigh almost nothing so I can carry a full mag.
2. If you shoot them in low light conditions, they make and awesome flame blossom that will leave the person you shoot them at speechless for at least 30 minutes (Don't ask me how I know this!)
3. Because they are not powerful enough to cycle the slide, I get to make that cool racking sound 9 times before I have to reload. If the flame blossom doesn't get them, the racking sound will.
