This guy looks nothing like Batman, The Lone Ranger, or Chuck Norris. Trying to shoot the tires on a moving vehicle with innocent bystanders in the vicinity, give me a break. How much sniper training has he had to be able to do that with a pistol? Even LEO's don't try to shoot out tires, they lay down spike stripes. This guy should have lost his CC license. He didn't pay much attention in class to the "when to shoot" and for "what reason" parts. I agree...There are a lot of things we can learn from the mistakes this guy made...We are already versed again with the applicable Texas statutes that govern our reactions to situations like this, and in the long run, our ability to take a life, would not be warranted in a situation like this, as reported...seamusTX wrote:We don't need to pile on the guy. He has enough problems already.
When I realized that no one else was going to provide security for me and my family, I paid quite enough and went to a lot of effort to provide it on my own. AT&T has plenty of revenue and managers who can decide their security policies, as do banks, grocery stores, department stores, etc. I didn't sign up to provide it for them.

Thanks.
There's another aspect of this situation, which I didn't expand upon earlier.
I heard an interview with an college graduate who took an entry-level job with Target because he couldn't find anything else in the current economy. During the orientation, the management emphasized that Target does not want employees to risk their safety trying to interfere with robbers or shoplifters that might become violent.
The new hires were shown a video of a simulated robbery. The robbers got $10,000, which is a formidable pile of small bills.
The instructor asked the new hires how long they thought it took Target to bring in $10,000 in revenue. The answer was one second.
From that perspective, it makes perfect sense to let a robber or thief get away, rather than having an employee or innocent customer shot, stabbed, or killed.
The result is that some moron with a banana in his pocket can rob a bank or store with impunity. It's frustrating to consider. But these crooks tend to have short careers. Either law enforcement identifies them from videos and witness descriptions, or they are stupid enough to get caught doing something else with identifiable stolen property, or they talk to much.
