Hotels and 30.06

[DONT TREAD ON ME]

I will be staying at a hotel this weekend in Houston and had a question about 30.06.

If the hotel is posted 30.06 can I still carry my handgun to and from my truck and have it in my room as it will be my place of residence and my room will be under my control?

Seems logical. I'd carry for sure! There's no way I'd leve it in my truck in an area I'm unfamiliar with.

There are very few hotels in Houston that place 30.06 signs on the premise. Some may place gun buster signs but I havent run into many that actually place 30.06 signs. I really wouldnt worry about it regardless.

I have stayed at both of these in the last year and the Doubletree was not the actual 30.06 sign at the time (Xmas 2009) and the Hilton as I recall was the same...bad sign. Regardless, concealed means just that. I wouldn't leave the gun in the car either way....

In as much as they had some sign posted legal or not, it shows the intent of a non gun friendly establishment.

IANAL and my memory might not be 100% on the Hilton. Either way the signs may have been updated since I was there.

I recomend the Lancaster....they are very nice, priced better and they have a town car to drop you off and pick you up for the local downtown stops and NO SIGNS. The Eggs Benedict Lancaster is to die for BTW.

There is also a Holiday Inn Express in the same area (by the toyota center) that is priced better than the Hilton.

Yep it was Doubltree where I saw the gun buster sign. I couldnt remember what it was. I travel all over the state and see very few 30.06 or other signs at hotels.

If there is one thing that needs to be changed in the law it's that. Even before Texas had a CHL law it was legal to have your gun in your hotel room because it's considered your home while you are paying to stay there. Correct me if that's not correct. Hotels should not be allowed by law to have 30.06 signs because of the nature of the business they're in. If they want to be anti gun and not allow their customers to protect themselves they should go into the jewelry business or become a movie theater. I know there are plenty of choices of hotels in most places but not all. Besides, what if they all started posting.

I've always carried, when traveling, even before CHL. All we had, back then, was "defense to prosecution". I can't admit to this kind of an infraction, now.

The Doubletree downtown is 30.06 posted. Legal sign is on the front door. There are other 30.06 graphics posted at the secondary entrances with correct verbiage but the letters are not legal size.

I am at this building quite a bit and the front door is posted correctly. The secondary entrances are too small and not in Spanish. However; if you come in through the sky walk from Allen Center 1, there is no sign at all. Funny thing, the building is 30.06 and their bar is posted with 51% but they are SIGN=BLUE. Go figure.

Actaully, I looked today and the brass one is still there, you really have to look for that one. Just a gunbuster though, so how does that work? A properly posted main entrance but 3 alternate entrances without proper signage ???

If the 30.06 notice is properly on the main entrance - shouldn't "any" and "all" entrances open to the public also be properly posted - unless clairvoyance is expected...
