Dear CHL Applicant letter
I got a letter from the Texas Department of Public Saftey about being one of the first on thier new website before it was secure. Bunch of info about how personnel info could have been stolen.
Info to get Q&A and protect yourself and they will give free 12 months of credit monitering.Wow.I bet a lot of you will get the letter who logged onto the new website before it was secured.
Any input on this? I am not sure what to do yet myself.

I also got this letter and was wondering what to do about it.
I guess the obvious option is to apply for the free year of credit monitoring?

I've been on that credit monitoring for the past few months on another case similar to this. Gives credit score, good info. Take it for the year. Not worth paying for, IMO.

Re: Dear CHL Applicant letter
Well i went online to put a 90 day alert on my stuff and found out i already have one.About a month ago i got a call from my credit card co that someone tryed to use my card fraudulently and closed my card and issued another so maybe they did it.I got a statement since then and only my purchases are on it so guess i'm ok. So i went online and did my three free annual credit reports and printed them everything looks ok too.Wow lot of stuff on there.Go to annualcreditreport.com to do them its pretty easy.Just make sure up go back to the first website after you print out each one, the link up at the top of the page.

Yeah Mr Cotton brought this to them and ours attention a while back. Its in that long thread on here about the new CHL website.Russell wrote:I assume by "not secure" that means SSL was not enabled for their site.
That's pretty ridiculous. Mickey Mouse himself could have remembered to make the site SSL secure before going live

Re: Dear CHL Applicant letter
A few years ago my info was stolen and I took up an offer for free credit monitoring. I tried it but was unimpressed. Although, when I do apply for credit I get a warning that my credit history was checked, so it does work.

I got this letter today as well. I guess I can apply for the credit monitoring now. Cheers to DPS for protecting our safety.

Re: Dear CHL Applicant letter
I got a letter like that after purchasing something online with my card. No one tried to use my cards (hence why I hadn't noticed anything odd) but the scumbag who got my info had opened a card somewhere up north and charged it up. Dropped my credit into the 500s and took months of arguing to get it removed from my credit score.
Take the free year of monitoring - things like what I posted above can go unnoticed for a LONG time if you don't have access to the information.
