My mistake. I was assuming we were having a discussion in context. Next time I will be more careful, or maybe not at all.

2. Call animal control (to establish a paper trail about this problem animal).

3. Get video of the dog in your yard, with a time/date stamp, preferably threatening you or your animals.

And then, as quickly subsequent to #3 as possible:

4. No. 4 Buck, center of mass.

pit bulls no longer a problem

After several attacks on kids by two pit bulls owned by a serious loser in the neighborhood (the only Section 8 house anywhere nearby), I used my silenced (legally owned) 17 Mach II Thompson-Center Contender to send one home with a belly ache. He was later found dead in an alley. The loser and the rest of the dogs moved within three days... I consider that to be a very successful shooting, and still nobody knows who did it.

Remember silencers are polite!!!

Most dogs are friendly towards people - I've on occasion taken a neighbor's dog back to his home and politely informed the neighbor that the dog left a mess in my yard that I expected him to clean up. (He did . . . or more specifically, he sent one of his kids over with a Pooper Scooper.) We get along fine.
He will sit there and back at me and show his teeth.
The dog was standing on MY porch Grawling at Me.
The FIRST time a dog seriously threatened me or a member of my family would be it's last - I will NOT tolerate a threatening animal on my property. (Note the word "seriously" . . . a growling pit bull or Alsatian is a very different from a yappy little dog like a chihuahua or pekingese . . . )

As already cited, TX law permits shooting of a dangerous dog to protect humans or other domestic animals.

+1 :iagree: About 20 yr ago I told a counstable & a Deputy Sheriff, "if a man had stayed between me & my front door, refusing to let me in, threatening me & refusing to leave at my command, yall would go arrest him immediately no questions asked." I can identify the dog. Yall have other complaints on him & refuse to go to the owner after several homeowners already have. Don't tell me don't shoot that dog. If he threatens me & I can get to my gun I will not be threatened on my own property, not by a man or by his dog.
About 2 weeks later I was inside & he would not let me out. He quit growling as soon as the .44 Mag went off. owner did file on me. Grand Jury no bill.
Before the shoot I had documented all trouble, been to the SO, Kept those records too.

Ditto that. I don't understand why more people don't see it that way. I've had dogs, even on leashes, jump up and try to bite me.

If I lunged at someone with a knife, I would be doing 5 to 10 in Hunstville and deserve it.

It's my understanding that if you are on your own property, and believe you or a family member is threatened by a stray dog on your property, that you are within the law to kill the animal by whatever means is neccessary. The key words would be "I felt threatened". With a dead pit bull at your feet, there should be no doubt of the threat.
Sure, it's illegal to discharge firearms in city limits, but we all know that if there is a threat to your life or safety by a 2-legged animal, you have the right to shoot it. A 4-legged animal should be no different.

Exactly. 2 legs = legal. 4 legs = twice as legal. Makes sence to we the people.
