well im just curious to know if theres a way to find out if someone was eligble before they took the chl class and submitted the forms in.

im asking because when i was a minor i had a misdemeanor and i cannot find any of my old forms stating which class it was. (it was either a C or B)

maybe i can goto the juvenille court house?

i read somewhere that when u request from the dps the chl application packet they run a background check to make sure your eligble.

is that true?

Springfield Armory XD 9mm Service

Greetings--

You can request your own criminal history (background check) from the DPS. There is a fee involved. You also have to submit a set of fingerprint cards.

If there is any history on your record, this should show it. It *should* also show the charge, date, and court of jurisdiction. However, if its a juvie record, that may or may not show depending on the exact details of the charge/conviction, ect.

The background check fee is less than submitting a CHL app and its non-refundable fee.

How old were you at the time? What was the thing you were charged with?

Unless it was a felony grade of delinquent conduct it won't matter anyway. A misdemeanor as a juvenile won't prohibit you from obtaining a CHL.

Just list the offense and dates, as much as you can remember, on the CHL app and don't sweat it.

I can attest to that. I had two items of concern from my past.

I just put down all the information I could remeber and sent it in. No problem. Of course it was over 15 years ago, and a simple possesion of alcohol by minor type offense.

thanks for all the input guys.... back when i was 16 i was hanging out with ppl who i thought were "cool"; unfortunately i was pursuaded to actively participate in what the law states at committing theft (well thats what my documents say). im not really sure what courthouse i went to because theres so many in downtown houston, all i really can remember was that i was some family courthouse. im assuming all downtown courthouses will only be HPD correct?

if all else fails in about 8months i will have past the 5 year mark from my juve offense.

ooh and is deferred adjudication considered a conviction, because i remember thats what i had

This is a weird one, because I have been arrested for non-payment of speeding tickets many times (when i was younger/dumber). I sent off for the records, as you describe above. I just got my fingerprint card back yesterday from Austin, and it reads "No Criminal Record". So now I am in the texasonline.com CHL application and wondering if I put "no criminal record" in the questionaire? The whole reason I sent off for the criminal records check is so I could accurately enter in my arrests with dates. Even more strange is that one of these arrests was for non payment of a speeding ticket, from a Texas State Trooper in Lampasas?? I wish I knew if it was the same database that they are checking for CHL. I'm not into lying but I would not divulge any information that was not pertinant. In other words, why stir the pot? I wish someone who really knew the deal would tell me what to do!
