Veteran Discount ?

Was wondering if you qualify for the 50% price reduction for a general-under honorable conditions discharge? Anybody with any experience on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

There are five types of discharges:
Honorable
General - under honorable conditions (referred to simply as a general discharge)
General - under other than honorable condions (referred to as an Other than honorable or OTH)

Dishonorable Discharge

The first three are administrative discharges. The last two are the results of conviction at Court Martial.

I know that the bottom three would not count, but my question is would the general discharge qualify for the discount?

I went online yesterday and filled out the application. I checked the box Veteran.

When I checked out and paid for it, the invoice was for $70.00 (50% discount). I did not read that I would have to send in my DD-214 or some other type of proof of being a veteran. Perhaps they just take your word for it?

No, they will not take your word for it. You will have to submit a DD-214.

No, they will not take your word for it. You will have to submit a DD-214.

That is correct. However, you won't have to submit the DD=214 until you mail all the other paperwork from your CHL, class back to DPS.

What you've applied for online is actually a request for an application packet to be sent to you in order to take the CHL class.

No, they will not take your word for it. You will have to submit a DD-214.

also, after looking around for information on this, make sure its the DD-214 that has the type of discharge you received, i have heard of them kicking it back if you send the member-1 form, what you need is the member 2 form.

FYI,

It is NOT required that you get an application packet before attending class.
Most instructors will have packets available in class for those who did not pre-register.
Going to class first may save you the application fee. I have had several who came to the class and did not realize that they had an issue that would prevent them from getting a license.
I offer a partial refund to those who discover this in class, before taking pictures, fingerprints or doing the range visit.
If you do the on-line application and pay for it, you will not get a refund if you do not qualify.

I thought that by filling out the application online, I didn't need to mail in a packet. It gave me a checklist of things that needed to be submitted (fingerprints, DD-214, photos, etc) but didn't mention filling out the application again.

I just want to make sure I understood that right.

To the original poster, have you had any luck finding out if a General-Under Honorable Conditions counts for your discount? I know some people have had similar issues with their Hazelwood Act and MGIB benefits.
