Re: Wife's Concerns
My wife is not anti gun, not afraid of guns, but just cares nothing about guns or shooting. She does shoot if I insist, just not near often enough. Her problem is that she thinks nothing can ever happen to her because nothing ever has. I think completely different. Her Sig P-230 stays in the console of her car because I put it there and told her to leave it there.

We have had our CHLs for about a month and blbedd53's post pretty much sums up my wife exactly.glbedd53 wrote:My wife is not anti gun, not afraid of guns, but just cares nothing about guns or shooting. If I insist enough to get her to go the range she has fun. She is actually a really good shot.
As for me carrying, nothing has ever happened to her and she is one of those people that trusts EVERYONE. (yes, we have had many a conversation about that too) She doesnt see a need for me to walk around with a gun all the time.
At least we comprimised. She doesnt ask if I have it and I dont tell her when I do.

Re: Wife's Concerns
I feel more secure knowing my wife is armed, and trained, and aware that bad guys (and girls) can be anywhere. FWIW, I gave her an engagement gun way before I gave her a ring. I agree it's a man's job to take care of his family. But it's nice that it can work vice-versa.

Re: Wife's Concerns
Interesting thread. I'm in a similar situation. We've been married now for about 14 years. I've always hunted and have always had rifles in the house. She changed a bit when I bought a couple of pistols. I'm not sure if it was the new pistols or if it was concern over the number of guns I had purchased within a year. She's said a couple of times "You've been fine for 3x years not carrying, why now?" I simply reply with, "We've been lucky."
She's not against them, I think she's just uncomfortable with the pistol "stigma".
I've been carrying now for about 8 months (xd .40 subc & LCP). I think I carried for about 2 months before she caught on, and she only really caught on when I wouldn't have drinks when we went to dinner. She has now come to like having a defaulted designated driver and does not make a fuss when I say "Does this look OK?" and "Does my gun show too much?" She is even helping me look for the 30.06 signs and has inquired where I can and can't carry.
BUT, I must say I was really surprised when she asked what should she do if someone was trying to break into the house. I was on my way out of town for a 2 week trip, but quickly gave her some pointers on where I kept the pistols and how to get the one that was alway ready. She has her 20 guage, but she tried on the xd sub compact, xd 4", and lcp. She and I thought the 4" was a better fit for now. I've now discussed the possibility of getting her a wheel gun and she's not against it. I just now need to figure out the right introduction for pistol shooting for her. I've been looking for an excuse to get a 22 pistol to start showing my daughter (8) how to use a pistol. She's gone from the pink red rider to the 10/22 and now and I think will be ready to try a 22 pistol in the next year or so. I think I'll be looking for more information about how to introduce both my daughter and wife now to pistols. Anyone know of a mother daughter intro class?

Re: Wife's Concerns
I am blessed with a wife that not only puts up with me but shares the same values and most of my world view. Safety is priority 1. She not only supports me carrying she prefers it. The only thing holder her back from obtaining her own CHL is her inability to obtain a Texas DL. And the only reason for that is because her job has her booked solid during the week. She has the p94 or the cw40 on her nightstand and she knows how and when to use it god forbid that becomes necessary. Life is much more enjoyable when your partner is of like mind on most things. My ex on the other hand was the opposite. after 9+ years of pain i set myself free and have never looked back. It is our god given right to protect ourselfs, family and property. Enough loons are out there trying to take that away from us... Having a wife who is part of this fringe would be intolerable ..

[quote="Embalmo"} there is no barbecue that's good enough to risk your life over? [/quote]
There's certainly no BBQ losing anything over, BUT the instant we LET terrorists terrorize us by changing the way we live then, SURPRISE! The terrorists win! Shortly after 9/11, I bought plane tickets to fly to Europe with the Mrs. Why? Because I wanted the terrorists know that they've accomplished NOTHING! We Texans cannot be bullied (besides, the tickets were half off).
The very fact that she still works in the 'hood UNARMED after her coworker was SHOT kinda hints that she's one tough cookie, eh? You don't know how many times I've begged her to get another job, but she insists, "Why should I let the thugs terrorize me? If I do that, then they win." Besides, if you've ever been married, you'll know that they (women) like to have their way and if they don't, they can make your life pretty miserable. So, if she wants BBQ, then guess what? I'm packin' (secretly, don't tell her!) and we're going out for BBQ.
Yea, I don't carry because my workplace has security guards. Yea, I know it's kinda foolish, but a gun is a real party pooper because they are usually a real drag because they're heavy and bulky. If I can find an excuse not to carry, then I don't carry. Besides, if I'm discovered, then I'm fired. I do carry a pack of QuickClot, just in case....
Oh, and the bit about her wanting to shoot me, that's a joke (I'm drJOKER, remember?)...

There are several women on the forum who are highly qualified instructors.javieljb wrote:Anyone know of a mother daughter intro class?
Depending on where you live, one or more of them might be close to you.

Re: Wife's Concerns
I have been carrying for a long time now and my wife of six years did not seem to have a problem with it at all. She has mentioned she would like to get her permit, but, it would be for political reasons just like when she joined the NRA. Her father has carried as long as I have, so it would seem she is comfortable with it, however...we went to the Ft.Worth zoo last Monday..
the 30.06 sign is inside the park after you pay your admission and cross inside. I saw the sign and told her I would return shortly....when I got back she was m a d and said" just because you have the #$&* permit does not mean you have to carry the thing!" I blew her off and still carry...24/7

Re: Wife's Concerns
Javieljb...send a PM to CompVest. She teaches the Women's Program at PSC in Friendswood. It's a wonderful program that starts with the basics at every single class, but still provides some challenges for those that are comfortable with shooting. You do not have to be a member of PSC to go to participate.javieljb wrote:I think I'll be looking for more information about how to introduce both my daughter and wife now to pistols. In line with the topic of this thread....coming from a wife...when I got my CHL, I wasn't all pro-gun. My husband was anxious and excited to get his. I felt bad because I wasn't excited at all! When williamkevin started carrying it felt weird to me. It "felt" like paranoia because it was different than what I was used to. It was MONTHS after I got my CHL before I carried regularly. The difference between then and now...because those of you that I have read my posts know that I LOVE shooting...is participating in the Women's Program as well as having a little time to feel comfortable with a lifestyle change. At the Women's Program we talk about more than fundamental shooting skills and safety. The instructors talk about being responsible for your own protection, about being responsible for protecting your children if your husband is not with you....and when it's a conversation among women, it's different than hearing it from any other man, including your husband.
