School playground -- what makes an activity 'sponsored'

#1

Post by youngGun »

I searched the forum before posting, as I didn't want to waste anyone's time. Unfortunately, I didn't find the answer I was looking for.

I recently received my CHL, and I live directly across the street from the elementary school playground. I often take my toddler son over there to play in the afternoons. I have no worries about carrying there most days, but occasionally there are soccer or football practices on part of the playground--20 yds or so from the slides and such my son is on.

My question is: what would make these teams be considered sponsored? I do not believe they are official school teams, nor do I believe they play in a league that involves the school. The coaches are parents of the children. I believe most, if not all, of the children attend this school, and at least one football team has stickers on their helmets the same as the elementary (or maybe high school) mascot.

If my assumptions above are correct as to them being an official school team or in an official school league, is it OK for me to carry at these times? Ambiguous and not worth the risk of a possible court case?

thanks in advance.

Visit w/ the coaches as "the guy who live across the street". Show some true interest. This could be something you want your toddler to be a part of in afew yrs. In conversation, ask if this is city league, or school. It may also be a private league. My grandson plays for a private league in San Antonio that a group of men started. After you find out those answers, GET ONE OF THE LEGAL SCOLARS HERE TO ANSWER. Charles or txi. All I know is the questions I would ask first.
