Lost My CHL...

Lost wallet a couple of years ago, with CHL and DL in it.
Immediately reported both for replacements.
Wallet showed up in mail a few days later, with both CHL and DL in it,
only cash was gone.
Called DPS, said replacement CHL was being processed;
told me to destroy the old CHL since it was no
longer valid.

The number that runs down the left hand side of the license changes when you get a reprint. I had to have one done because the TxDPS spelled League City incorrectly.

I guess that is why some folks grab a Utah license and keep it in a 'safe' place. (our safe places are so safe we can't remember where half of them are! We are still mising stuff from Ike somewhere!))

The PA license from Centre County is cheaper, quicker, no class, no prints or photo, but requires a TX CHL for TX residents. Utah is more expensive, takes longer, requires a class, requires fingerprints and photo, but you don't need a TX CHL. So it seems to me the Utah license may be a good alternative to a Texas CHL but the PA license is a better backup.

You can carry normally from your house to your car. The gun does not have to be concealed during the carry and could actually be in you hand if you want.

Whoa there... I don't think you're allowed open carry to your car. Even if you were, walking across your apartment parking lot with a visible weapon is asking for trouble of one kind or another. Put it in a bag or something, or risk attracting unwanted "man with a gun" attention.

Once inside your car, the gun MUST be concealed. That means it can be in your glove box, under a dishrag on the seat or in your concealed carry holster on your person. But..........you cannot get out of the car with it on your person! If you get out of the car, you must first put it in the glove box or under that dishrag..........

Once you get to your business (or a place under your control) you can exit the car with it on your person and enter that location directly.

I agree with that, except keeping it on your body in the car. If you are stopped and asked to step out of the vehicle by a peace officer, you have to have a really uncomfortable conversation because you can't exit the vehicle with it on without breaking the law, and you don't want to handle it in the presence of LEO that doesn't know you.

Well,........I did say HOUSE to car. I did not say anything about an Apartment. And what I did say should have been taken to mean "Property under your control" by any reasonable person.

Actually, yes, you can technically open carry from your home to your car, and back, legally, even if your 'home' is an apartment building.

Sec. 46.02. UNLAWFUL CARRYING WEAPONS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun, illegal knife, or club if the person is not:

(1) on the person's own premises or premises under the person's control; or

(2) inside of or directly en route to a motor vehicle that is owned by the person or under the person's control.

Walking from your apartment to your car meets the requirements above.
However, it seems that walking FROM your car, to your house is not.

Thanks for all the posts on this subject. I have 'lost' both my DL & CHL + 3 credit cards. I feel it's 'lost' in my house after a 2-day cleaning frenzy in preparation for a party. There has been NO suspicious activity on the credit cards.

So, I will do one more thorough search tomorrow, but print & complete the form & get it in the mail! (Maybe I'll get the new style card like my husband's.)

Not knowing the location of my credentials makes me very nervous! Yikes!!

Hmmm, does that mean you can open carry from your residence to your car that is parked 4 blocks away? (Apartment with street parking, for example?)
