A military base is pretty much a shooting gallery, just like public schools and universities. Easy prey.

This is why the MPs here at Lackland are all required to attend an active shooter class. Been to mine! If you look at history (had to in class) there have been more than 3 dozen or so since the 90s. This is the first one on a Military Base, just goes to show the world no one is immune from these type of attacks.

Also, very Americanized. I heard the interview of his cousin, and both the shooter and the cousin have lived here their entire lives. They are an American family who happen to be Muslim. The shooter is an Army psychiatrist (go figure) who had vocally argued in the past that Muslims should rise up against the invasion of Iraq/Afghanistan.

That said, the cousin was very emphatic that they were not immigrants. He had no accent himself, other than a slight drawl. And he characterized the shooter as having been a "good American" his entire life. He said his family is absolutely shocked that he did these things.

A class of our soldiers headed to Iraq were murdered by at the very least, a MAJOR in the United States Army.
Let us not forget the foiled attack in Dallas in weeks past.

Well, it isn't terrorism. The FBI said so. Less than two hours after the incident.

Now the reports are saying the shooter is still alive and in the hospital.

I hope he gets a court martial and execution by firing squad.

I just heard that too. He probably won't get the death penalty. LIFE in Leavenworth would be good. Let him think about this for a while.

Apparently, the female officer that was reported killed earlier has also survived. :woohoo

She was the first one to engage and shoot the Major.

EDIT: So far they are saying that she shot at him, but did not hit him.

Won't he now be charge with a hate crime?

That was just recently passed, right? He killed them because they were in the military, right?

This STINKS in multiple ways.

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.

One thing that is really bothering me is the cousin of the shooter saying "he is a good American" , that's like saying timothy mcvee (SP) was a great American. My @$$ , I say he is a terroist! This is an extreme act against American citizens!

This makes me so mad!

CHL should be an option for military personal , on base or not. They should have the right to defend themselves and not have to wait for a leo to do the job.

I don't know if this makes sense but fox news reports that he did not want to be deployed overseas. Could he have done something like this just so that he wouldn't have to be deployed? This rationale seems so unbelievable but that's what it seems like to me. He killed so he wouldn't have to go. :headscratch

It is not unbelievable. His supervisors gave him low performance reports in VA and transfered as seasoned Capt - to be Major upon transfer... The actions were seen - this is a disgrace. How ... HOW ...did it got this far? How? Medical runs differnt than everyone else. Not required clearances...

Anything is possible. When it comes to the mind of a sick human, the possibilities are almost endless.

I say if thats the true reason then he is a coward. I still would and will hold him as a COWARD even if that is not the excuse. If he did not want to deploy overseas, then go AWOL, go to JAIL, get a DISHONORABLE discharge, there are many, many things to do to get a discharge and killing innocent Americans is NOT on the list.
