CHL Attorney

#1

Post by Hunter11 »

Does anyone know of a good CHL attorney in the Austin/San Antonio area? I would like to have one lined up just in case I ever needed one for a CHL related issue.

Interestingly this is something they always talk about in the class and renewal class and I also see it on all the forums... but I rarely ever see a recommendation for an Attorney. I would also like to know of a good Attorney for CHL related possibilities in Central Tx ( anywhere from Austin to Waco- I'm in between)

I assume an initial consult or retainer would be in order, as would an initial meeting. Perhaps an hour's worth of time/expense would get you started. ? I know a couple Attorneys, but none for this kind of thing.

Perhaps there aren't enough events (as most CHL's stay out of trouble) to really get experienced in this type of law specialty?

There are a some threads about this here already, including a couple where someone needed and found an attorney. You will have to sharpen up your search skills a bit.

In San Antonio there is an attorney who also does business as a FFL. I think he does criminal defense, but never got around to calling him. Because of his FFL status, I assume he has more than a passing interest in firearms law. I believe the name is Davidson.

We went to our attorney today to sign our new will and he is also a CHL holder. I asked him about this and he did not know of any around the Austin area but said he had heard about one in San Antonio. Maybe someone will come along and know his name and phone number.

The one I've had recommended to me by my business and personal attorney is Michael Burnett at Minton-Burton. His contact number is 512-476-5072. I have not contacted him, yet, but plan to call him next week. I'll report back what I hear from him after discussing his interest in this area of law.

I had an original thread about an attorney in the Highland Lakes area. At my CHL class last saturday, my instructor gave me an atty's name. I will call either tomorrow or next week to find out if he is in fact in the "business".

I've traded a couple of phone calls with the attorney I mentioned in an earlier post, but still haven't been able to speak with him. Meanwhile, I've had another one recommended to me that I plan to contact next week.

As soon as I'm able to have a reasonable conversation with one, or both, of them, I'll post here.

I'm thinking Aaron Mueller in Austin would be a good one. He's a criminal lawyer and his mentor and long time partner is Ned Granger a former Travis County DA so he knows the ins and the outs of criminal law.

I haven't called him myself yet but when I find out something I'll let you guys know.

If anyone does actually talk to an attorney that does handle CHL cases in the Austin area please do report back. I would love
to have a name and number just in case it was ever needed.

Who I use http://www.chlpp.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Cost me 400.ii I believe for I think 5 years sorry cant remember exactly. 100% coverage in a defensive shooting. Doesnt cover from civil lawsuite. That being if the family of the person you killed came after you. The Castle Doctrine covers us in that aspect. Hope this helps. Here is a # 877-219-8488. Im not a salesman for them but for us CHL with a family this is a must (IMO). A shooting could ruin us in exspenses that our familys would have to pay along with us. In my eyes as long as I did everything possible to protect them I could live with myself.
