Therefore refusing you entry because you're carrying, and not willing to allow them to collect your information is illegal.
Unless they collected the exact same information for every single other patron that entered.

Singling you out because of your CHL status is discriminatory.

My point is that they are not refusing you entry because you're carrying. They would be refusing entry because you aren't allowing them to collect the information they want. What law says they can't discriminate based on CHL status, especially since it's a private organization? I don't think CHL status is protected under the anti-discrimination laws that cover race, sex, religion, disability, etc.

Concealed has a real meaning and the info should not be available for the ticket taker, only the LEO in charge at the gate. They need to change their policy.

By what authority are they collecting. They can not just make up policy as they see fit. I have no problem with a LEO collecting but not a rent a cop as pointed out earlier they could be convicted felons. I know the sate protects out information so what gives the local PD authority to collect it by 3rd party and possibly make it public.

I think what they are trying to say is while they can't refuse you entry for carrying, they can TRY to refuse you entry because you didn't give them information. Personally, I would do just as one individual did and tell them you will show your CHL to a police officer.

As far as it being illegal to write down your information, I don't think it really is. However, legal or not, it is common practice by folks taking drivers license and SSN when you write a check.

What about if they start to write info down you tell them they can have the CCL # but not your name and adress. Tell them that if something was to happen LEO can get all your info from the # and the person trying to steal your identity would have nothing with just a CCL #. What do ya think?

I just personally would be willing to show them the CHL but not hand it to them. If they request to record information, tell them you will present the ID's to a LEO. They usually have one or two around the entrances that were there for that function in the first place.

Wow. I would never, ever, ever let my SSN be written on a check. Yea, I know if someone really wants pretty much any type of
information they can buy it off the internet. (I have a problem with this). But to write it on a check, have it hit the clearing house, micro phished or digitally copied, stored, and available to who knows how many opportunistic folks prone to ill gotten gains..... no.
I personally have not encountered a request for my SSN (to date). Is this becoming a common practice in certain areas of TX or out of state?

Shodl have said DL OR SSN. I am not sure how much it happens any more, because I use a check card at stores, but it used to be fairly common a few years ago.

Yeah, I was asked for my SSN once to write a check. Told 'em that if my DL# was insufficient, they could go pound sand & I'd take my business elsewhere.

Well went to state fair today. I was stopped at gate with the wand. He was checking everywhere. No biggie I handed him my license and out came the notebook. At that moment I told him that he could write my CHL # down but there was no reason for him to write down my name and address and he agreed. I know the # wont help him find anymore info out about me so I was confortable with that. Just an update for.

Maybe they are already asking for less information. If you freely gave them any type of personal information, that is your decision. I don't agree, but you'll get no criticism from me. I hope you had fun at the Fair.

In giving them my chl # but NOT anything else , don`t think they need more , who`s to say the lil person that wands is`nt pre say going to use it for something illegal ( credit fraud , been down that road before )

How about you ask them for their information as well so if anything comes up you can go after them...
Then ask for the person in charge do the same so if again something happens like that you can sue him for his employee used your information for illegal activities....

While it must be nice to carry at the fair, I don't think I'll be going anytime soon. My address is on the CHL and I don't want Skippy the Cave Troll knowing where I live and that I have weapons. Neither is acceptable to me. I won't give them any information. None of their business. Period.

Have a LEO verify legality of the CHL'r? Fine by me. Write down anything? Not fine by me.

You would not be able to enter the fair if they new you were carrying without them writing your CHL # down (verified that). I didnt volunteer to give him my #. As the others have said as soon as they realize you are carrying they write the CHL down. When they wrote down others info they wrote more then just the #. My point as I explained to the gate guy is that with the # the police could track me down easily if I was to break the law but if the gate person was to try and steal my identity the # would not help him. He still needs my SS# and he doesnt have that. He doesnt even have my name with just the #. I talked to him for a while after the fact as I waited for my family and he was also checking in others. I was content that by the time I left there was no way he could remember my address or my name. In the end at least I wasnt gunless in a not so good town. To each his own.
