Has anyone here ever drawn there firearm in defense?

Yes...twice and fired both times. Once was 26 years ago the other was 8 or 9 years ago. No kills yet.

I thought when I took my class that if you pull your gun, you might as well shoot, because its a pretty big crime to just pull your gun on someone, even with a CHL. Am I wrong?

It is not a crime to pull it and not shoot. I pulled mine and the burglar ran. I didn't feel it was necessary to shoot him.

If you are justified in shooting, you are justified in drawing. But justification in drawing does not mean you are justified in shooting. There are some threads around on force vs. deadly force.

Pulling a gun on anyone without justification is a serious crime. My thinking is, you'll know it when you need it - otherwise, leave it alone.

Thanks for posting the above piece of law.

I think it's cool that this wording exists in the legislation.

You can TELL someone you are going to put a bullet through their eye,
but it ISN't the same thing as following through with that deadly action.

Back a few years ago before my CHL I carried a .40 Glock 23. I cut a guy off on accident on a freeway in Houston, it was my fault but it wasnt on purpose, I just didnt see him. He exited behind me and pulled up next to me at the light, got out screaming at me and then hit my passenger side window with his fist so hard I am surprised he didnt break it. I pulled my gun, pointed it at his face, and he completely freaked out with hands in the air, got back in his car and drove off.

I wasnt going to shoot the guy unarmed but I sure as heck wasnt going to allow him to physically threaten me and punch my vehicle and let him escalate the situation. It was the first time I realized why my granddaddy called his handgun a "peacemaker".

I swear that day changed his life and he re-thought road rage. I wouldnt be surprised if after he changed his shorts he founded a road rage non-profit to help those afflicted with road rage.

Several years ago I was driving on a long strip of Interstate in West Texas. Driving with cruise control, I came up behind a car that I had to pass due to their lower speed. After passing I cordially returned to the right lane. Now they decide to pass me. They switched lanes right in front of me then proceeded to decelerate (no brake lights). Never disengaging my cruise, I passed them again, and again moved to the right lane after passing with ample room. This went on a few more times and I became aggravated with the whole "game". The last time they passed me they pulled up beside me and rolled down their windows and tried to confront me...at 70mph!? I simply reached between the seats, rolled down my driver side window and as I rested the 1911's barrel on the door frame, I pulled the hammer back with my thumb. All of this while not disengaging the cruise control or taking my left hand off of the steering wheel. They spotted the half inch whole in the end of the 1911 and immediately punched it to get on up the road. That was the last I saw of them and the closest I have had to come to using a weapon.

As the title says has atone here ever needed to draw ther firearm in defense and if so has atone ever discharged said firearm

So far just once when my wife started threatining to make me watch "The Sound of Music" with her. I've never feared so greatly as I did that day...

Almost did last spring, for the first time ever. Had my hand above my hip ready to draw. One of my employees was in a shouting match with a guy and when he put both hands on his hips and moved his face 6 inches from my employees face, I thought he might reach for a knife....

the owner didn't seem to think their large dog running loose attacking was a big deal until steel was shown.
