Are you folks telling me that I can ignore the 30.06 sign at Will Rogers or Market Hall? I have been tempted to do this a couple times but backed off at the last minute.

You can do whatever you think your lawyer and legal funds can handle.

LOL...which isn't much at this time. I would have to plead my way out of a Jay Walking ticket. That was what I thought also, but some of the posts in this thread read like the posting may not be legit. I will probably swim with the current on this one and just continue to check my handgun at the door like I always have.

Technically the postings are not legit if:
a) the venue is government owned
b) the posting doesn't comply exactly with the code (English/Spanish, etc).

It's just a matter of who wants to be the test case.

I have no problem with putting a tie on it and keeping the clips separate. I think the issue is much more for safety in the context. Putting a tie on all weaponry into the location means that chances of an accidental firing are low, and generally everyone is disarmed (at least the shows I have been to, with actual police at the entrance). I can understand your desire not to leave weaponry in the car for theft purposes.

I'll be frank-posters on this board only- I would have no issue with, at all. But every gunshow I've been to, like every major event, has a large yayhoo percentage who I wouldn't trust with a #2 pencil. Additionally, and this is just me, I'm leery of pickpockets. I have the wallet in the front pocket with hand on it at all times in a gunshow. There's just too many people running into me.

To me its not a rights issue, but a high yayhoo issue in a concentrated space.

P.S. You are breaking the law if you intentionally fail to conceal so they can zip tie it.

P.S. I have seen the signs at the Live Oak Civic Center (San Antonio) and have seen the cops. AIn't seen a disqualifier....at least it didn't JUMP out at me (as per law ...30.06) So I do ...as I do.

I've never purchased a gun at a show like this. Do they put a strap on those when you buy them? If not, then like someone said, I can buy magazines, ammo, and a gun once I'm inside. What's the point of confiscating or putting a zip-tie on anything? I'm betting they make you put a zip-tie on purchases.

So...devil's advocate here. Does the renter of said hall (city/county government owned) have no legal ability to restrict concealed carry?

The last one I went to (years back) said "no live ammo allowed" and did NOT allow ammo sales inside. The ammo sale was under a tent in a nearby parking lot.

It seems like I hear stories about a round being fired in a nearby gun show about once a year...usually by the dealers.

My opinion, and it is worth exactly what you are paying for it - or maybe a little less, is that the renter of a government owned hall can do nothing the government cannot do. I think of it this way:

1. The people give the government certain authorities.
2. The person rents the hall.
3. The government gives them only those authorities it wants to THAT IT HAS.

The government has no authority to give a renter permission to do something it cannot do. We never gave that authority to them.

Now, the funny part of this is that we stop the government from restricting the authority to carry weapons, but we never did restrict their authority over ammo. We make no mention of loaded or unloaded weapon sunder the law, so we never mention ammo at all. To me, that means a really smart municipality might properly be able to post signs saying you cannot have live ammunition in a certain location (much as the one show did that you mention). this could be enforced under 30.05, the regular criminal trespass law, much like a ban on recording devices at a concert can be posted and enforced.

It might be found by the courts to be a violation of the ideals of 30.06, but it would certainly be an interesting test case.

Every gun on display must be tied by the dealer. Many shows have staff walking the aisles looking for ones that aren't tied or are tied improperly.

A properly applied tie prevents the action from closing or the hammer from being drawn back.

If staff noticed that you removed a tie while inside the show, you would likely be handed one and asked to tie it again.
