Hello.

I have been a member of the forum for a month now, though I don't post often. I received my CHL in November 2005 and carry regularly. I view myself as a one of the youngsters on this board (22 yrs old). I haven't begun to post regularly because I am still trying to read everything new each day and soak up the wealth of information provided by our older members. I joined the forum because of the quality of discussion on this board and the diversity of the opinions expressed here. I appreciate everything Charles has done to keep this forum professional and friendly. However, it pains me to see threads like this and the one that it originated from. I am in no way pointing the finger at anyone involved, I just find it unfortunate. Guys, out of respect for the other posters (especially Charles and the ladies on here), let this be the end of it. On this forum, as with anything in life, there will always be people whose views annoy or agitate you. It's OK. That's the beauty of this place. If everyone had the same ideas and always agreed, there would be no need for a place like this for friendly debate. I am thankful we don't all think alike as it allows us to learn from each other. I respect the views of every poster on this board, but there are a few posters that I truly look forward to their posts on each thread (Charles, txinvestigator, and longtooth). I believe these are good men and I value their opinions and insight.

I realize that differences of opinion can be frustrating, I just ask that we all respect the guidelines Charles has set forth and keep this forum clean and professional. Thanks and Goodnight all.

I have been back in "lock up" for the last week or so. I come back and see this. I want to say I APPRECIATE TX, Charles, and the others who can give their opinion as to what the law says. I was always told if you don't want the advice don't ask. Thanks and I hope you guys will all see how much we need each other.

Forget the emerging flame wars.......do you mean you've been back in the hospital? How are you doing?

I have been largely incommunicado for the last two or three days. I’m swamped at work, have a rash of deadlines staring me in the face, am negotiating a new office lease, and I’m coordinating the move to the new building. I felt quite comfortable being out-of-pocket for a short while, because everything runs so smoothly on TexasCHLforum. What happened!?

I logged on today to find I had numerous PM’s complaining about one of the “family. Some of the emails posted a link to a thread and I have to admit I was not at all happy. I hope I’ve put this problem to rest, but if not, the “banned button will. I don’t like saying this, much less doing it. As I have confessed before, I’ve only banned one person and I jumped the gun doing it. That person was reinstated with my apologies. Please don’t think that my candor in admitting a mistake is an indication that I will not remove someone if it becomes necessary for the good of the “family.

As I have said many many times, TexasCHLforum isn’t my board, it’s our board. This is not my attempt to create a fiefdom and I don’t think anyone can accuse me of trying to rule with an iron fist. I’m sure it sounds strange coming from a trial attorney who makes a living fighting battles, but I hate unnecessary confrontations! I love the courtroom and I wish I could be in trial every week, but I detest a fight among friends. Let’s remember folks that we are a very unique group in the Internet world. I don’t mean we are any better or smarter than anyone else, but we have succeeded in creating an atmosphere that encourages open discussion by novice and expert alike, without fear of being attacked or ridiculed. When TexasCHLforum was launched in December, 2004 to create such a forum, a few folks told me it was a noble effort, but it would never work. Well you folks made it work and I will not let anyone destroy it, no matter how distasteful I may find it to ban someone.

I want to apologize to everyone for letting this get out of hand while I was away from the forum. I/we have openly promoted TexasCHLforum to people, especially women and young people, promising a unique experience on the Internet, one that is hospitable and helpful without the infighting found in so many boards. Based largely on those representations, TexasCHLforum has grown and I feel I have let you folks down. I will try never to let it happen again.

A few people have offered to serve as moderators and we may have to add more folks. I have the utmost faith in the people who have volunteered and I am seriously considering the proposal. In the meantime, let’s get back to being the great, cohesive group we really are by discussing issues and answering questions.

Regards,
Chas.

Charles,

Welcome back; work sometimes gets on the way of havin' fun & refereeing flame wars doesn't it?

In no way is any of this flame war your fault. All of us on this board appreciate your hard work & respect the fact that you have to make a living just like the rest of us.

One member got out of hand & in no way does it reflect on the other members who look to you & this board for guideance on CHL issues.

Thanks to you & all the other members who were kind enough to get me through the "Waiting Room" & answer all my questions. It's a privilege to be a member here.

Let the flame die. :totap:

If you follow what happened, one member caused a thread to be locked by starting personal attacks.

That same member then started a new thrread for the sole purpose of continuing that attack. The attackee, after avoiding the thread for a while, finally responded by defending his honor.

While it takes two to tango, some people will not just sit back and allow their honor and reputation to be attacked without response.

In defense of my honor, it is obvious to me that you presumed I had not followed this and the other thread.

You are mistaken, I followed them.

It is my opinion that more than one member got out of hand.
