For CHL purposes, "amusement park" is defined by Penal Code 46.035(f)(1).

I believe I have read (and here the search function is your friend) that this definition was intended to include only AstroWorld and Six Flags at the time.

Also, for CHL purposes, it is now irrelevant. Carry in an amusement park is no longer expressly prohibited, and must post 30.06 just like anyone else to prohibit carry. This changed at the same time churches, hospitals/nursing homes, and meetings of governmental entities became OK to carry in unless posted.

Sea World is not posted 30.06 so it is not off limits. Just be mindful they do bag checks. No metal detectors or pat downs. I do not remember if Six Flags is posted as it has been a few years since we went there. The zoo is not posted either. There are lots of places to go and I have only ever seen one legitament 30.06 sign..... Funny thing is it was at the Bexar County Tax Assessor Collector'' office - so not a legally binding sign anyway!

I'd be willing to bet that Six Flags is posted since Six Flags in Arlington is 30.06 posted.

6-flags also has metal detectors at the entrance.

Six Flags / Fiesta Texas will not even let you in with a pocket knife...

ok thanks for all the info. I have now returned and while it is fresh in my mind I will post what I remember for future use. Seaworld only had a no weapons sign, they did a cursory bag search (didn't take anything out, just kind of moved the stuff on top around)but no metal detectors. The Alamo is not posted anywhere I could see. The Riverwalk was open as long as I stayed out of the bars. I carried everywhere but Seaworld. Thought it might be difficult to conceal while walking with the kids on my shoulders.

I used the search and found this thread. Good info. We're taking the kiddo's to Sea World over Father's Day weekend. Thanks for the replies to JPAT, it helped me out too. Also, the kids on the shoulders thing is a good point. I'll be sure to wear a tuckable holster and keep the shirt tucked in. That should help keep concealed. I'm a big fan of the C.T.A.C.

As it may be more comfortable to have your shirt untucked in July due to the heat, you could...carry normally into Sea World but have a backpack for water, sunscreen, dry clothes for the family, towels etc. When you get into the park go the the restroom and remove your holster and weapon and place it in your backpack, still holstered of course. I know this is not the most tactical place for your weapon. However, now you still have it on/about your person, its still concealed, still have the trigger protected and it allows you to move freely and not worry about your shirt being untucked or what not. Just a thought.

it also adds a lil protection if you should sit in the splash zone for Shamu...which I highly suggest your kids will love it!

While at Sea World this weekend I saw a 30.06 sign, next to their rules signs just prior to the ticket booths as you enter from the parking lot.

Its valid size and wording, but could be missed if you enter from the center of the parking lot and dont walk near the sides where the sign is.

I have carried there many times (we have had annual passes for the last 2 years) but this time I thought it best to disarm. I dont know if the sign is new or not, but its the first time I have ever seen it.

I'll have to confirm this, also. I never saw this sign until yesterday. We usually enter from either end of the parking lot. But we finally walked up through the center of the parking lot, and I saw the sign. I didn't have my sidearm with me, since we were going to spend a lot of our time in the water.

It would appear that I have received legal notification.

At least nobody made me during a previous visit. I guess that is a comment on my concealment skills.

"Amuesment park" means a permanent indoor or outdoor facility or park where amusement rides are available for use by the public that is located in a county with a population of more than one million, encompasses at least 75 acres in surface area, is enclosed with access only through controlled entries, is open for operation more than 120 days each calendar year, and has security guards on the premises at all times. The term does not include any public or private driveway, street or walkway, parking lot, parking garage, or other parking area.

From this, I would assume no 30.06 signs would be needed or required if the facility met the 75 acre requirement, and the county had enough population. As it does not include parking areas, you would have to secure your handgun in your vehicle someway.

Incorrect. The old law followed this method, but later section (i) of 46.035 was added that states:
(i) Subsections (b)(4), (b)(5), (b)(6), and (c) do not apply if the actor
was not given effective notice under Section 30.06.

and 4 is for hospitals, 5 is amusement parks and 6 is church.
