What are the laws concerning commercial vehicles??

#1

Post by tekboi »

In the summer time I drive a truck for my family, and I drive across state lines. Does anybody know what the laws are while you are driving a commercial vehicle? I want to know if it is legal for me to conceal carry. I dont know if I would get in trouble at weigh stations ect.

Commercial or private travel, it wouldn't matter. You are still subject to the laws of the state you are in and any reciprocity agreements that are in effect..

There may be a federal law that allows you to transport a weapon in your vehicle if you are traveling interstate and I need to find out about that myself, since I'm going to be visiting the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia in April.

As long as your employer doesn't restrict you from having a weapon in the truck (and your family is the employer) then any rules pertaining to firearms go as long with the commercial vehicle IIRC. So, if have a CHL that the other state recognizes, then you can carry across state lines to that state. Just note that you must obey THAT states laws on concealed carry when in their state. Weight stations should not be a problem unless you are asked for your ID. If in Texas, then you must produce the CHL for them as they are law enforcement personnel.

Wow! That is indeed a great question. I just figured it would be illegal no matter what. It's good to know that is not the case.
