Question: Texas Motor Speedway & The Speedway Club

#1

Post by The Annoyed Man »

I'm not sure how this one shapes out...

I've been invited to a client's Christmas party on Saturday the 13th in the evening, and it is being held at The Speedway Club of the Texas Motor Speedway. The speedway's online calendar indicates that there is no racing event being held that day, so as far as I know, this is simply a social occasion, and not a "sporting event." I have tried searching the speedway's website for any references to CHL or concealed carry, and I can't find anything. Can anyone tell me if the Speedway itself, or the Speedway Club are off limits to CHL?

Actually, I think I found it, but I don't know if it is binding on CHLs:

Link
All security measures are subject to change without notice.
  • Coolers are allowed inside the Speedway, but are subject to inspection by security officials and can be no larger than 14” X 14” X 14”.
  • Only one cooler per ticket holder in the grandstands.
  • Glass is not allowed inside the Speedway.
  • Bags such as backpacks, fanny packs etc. are allowed, but are subject to inspection by security officials and can be no larger than 14” X 14” X 14”.
  • Binoculars, scanners and cameras are allowed inside the Speedway.
  • Strollers, umbrellas, skate boards, scooters or roller blades are not allowed in the grandstands.
  • Items may not be left in or around the gate areas if they are not allowed inside.
  • All items brought through the gate areas are subject to inspection by security officials.
  • Guests are encouraged to arrive at the gates early to avoid traffic and to expedite entrance into the Speedway.
  • Guests are not allowed to bring these items into Texas Motor Speedway - weapons or firearms, fireworks, illegal substances and items restricted by local, state and federal laws.
  • The resale of Texas Motor Speedway admission tickets is strictly prohibited on the premises, which includes grounds and surrounding parking areas.
Does that part in red constitute a legal written warning?

Unless there is a pro sporting event going on, I think you're in the clear as long as they aren't 30.06ing. And even then, isn't TMS owned by the state or some local municipality, making 30.06 unpossible?

My basis for this is Reliant stadium (city owned) being ok as long as a football game isn't in progress.

I know that TMS is not owned by the state or a local municipality, it is privately owned. As for there being 30.06 sign at the Speedway Club I cannot help you on that one.

It say's you can't bring those items "into" TMS, the Speedway club is in a seperate building outside of the actual racetrack walls & last time I was there it was not posted that I can remember, it's been a while though.

I run autocross at TMS several times a year. Both on the road course inside of TMS and in the outer parking lot along 114. I have never seen a 30.06 sign posted anywhere on the premises. My Taurus has always been with me.

Thank you. That is what I was hoping to hear.

Went to an X-mas party last Thursday at ye ol' Speedway Club. din't carry (fair amount of dancing...) but I couldn't find a 30.06 sign. there was plenty of security watching the parking lot, if'n you leave it there, too.
food there is great, enjoy!
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

I believe the Speedway Club is a 51% establishment. Don't remember if the sign was up last time I was there, but it's basically a bar.

Well, we went to the party last night, and I decided to leave my pistol in the car. Much simpler if there was to be a hassle. As it turns out, the 7th floor of the Speedway club is neither a 51% establishment, a bar, or a restaurant, and neither is the entrance posted. It was actually a floor with 3 or 4 banquet rooms, and that's where we were. I could have carried, and it would have been fine. Oh well. I'll know better the next time.
