Can anyone help a fellow CHLer in DFW out?

I need a new job. I got let go a few weeks ago and am looking for another job. I do computer support. If you or your employer is looking for a desktop support guy I'd appreciate a heads up.

I would prefer a chl friendly employer. I got outed by a friend of a friend that saw my CHL when i whipped out my DL for ID when using my credit card. They went to HR, HR went to me with a box for my stuff.

Mr. Scott, your post read as if you were fired for just having a CHL. Is this correct? Were you carrying a handgun concealed at work or were you terminated for just being a CHL holder? I am not an attorney but I bet you have no issues getting one if you were fired for the latter.

I think we need some specifics on this. Sorry about your job.

Yes, Texas is an employment-at-will state. However, you can't fire someone for being in a protected class, you can't fire them for refusing to do an illegal act, you can't fire them for making a worker's comp. claim and you can't fire them in violation of a contract of employment. Employment-at-will has limits and not firing someone for having a gun in the car is no more intrusive on one's personnel policies than the restrictions set out above. Employers can use a pretext and fire someone for having a gun, while claiming another motive. But those actions are not as easy to get away with as one might believe. (I've had clients learn that one the hard way.) Remember, contrary to popular belief and what lawyers learn in law school, you don't have to prove anything; all you have to do is make the jury believe it. (That's an over-simplification, but not by much.) Further, I personally favor a bill that would address this issue in a manner that keeps the existence of a firearm confidential, but that's just my opinion. (Charles Cotton)

I think if you were fired because you have a CHL as opposed to carying at work against stated work policy you should talk to a lawyer about it.

Yes if that was the case.. I think he had it on him while at work. In Texas you can terminate anytime you want, but you still have legal obligations and can be served in a wrongful termination. I know as I have been in front of the TEC many times as a Director of HR.

I mean this is absurd as HR firing you because they found out you were a Democrat or Republican. I would guess that there were other contributing factors.

And how did you know that someone spotted your CHL license? 99% of the Joe Q. Public don't even know what a CHL license looks like. If it was in your wallet, only a portion of it would have been displayed. Something is not adding up.

If I were you I'd hit up the job sites, Monster.com, CareerBuilder.com, Jobs.com, etc. You should be able to spot something pretty quick.

Well I'm not going to state the name of the employer because they as a whole are a good company, but they have a philosophy of "safety for women" and are a very liberal company.
I'm not hurting for money as it is and have enough to last me until January and allow me to live comfortably. (I've already bought 2 more guns and a nice sword. lol
