Interesting statistics I found when browsing the CHL website

I don't see where you're getting these numbers.

The total number of convictions is 74, not 301.

The total number of convictions of CHL holders is 140, not 587.

These numbers are mainly weapons-related and assault. They do not include convictions for offenses like theft and DUI.

In 2006, 332 licenses were revoked. That number sets an upper limit on the number of CHLs convicted. Some may be revoked for causes other than conviction, such as mental illness, giving false information on their application, or being in default on child support.

Now I remember why creating an accurate comparison was so difficult. DPS "total" conviction numbers is for persons age 21 and over, not age 17. Thus, it's necessary to have population numbers for all Texans age 21 and over to get an accurate comparison. However, population numbers broken down by age always show an age group starting at 18, typically 18 to 24. I'll have someone work on this at the office.

Also, the older spreadsheet I referenced was created at a time when DPS only reported the index crimes, not everything in the Penal Code. With more information available, it's important to get both an over total comparison as well as a comparison focusing on violent crimes.

Now,I'm trying to find it again-I know I copied it directly off of the pdf file last night-now I need to double check what pdf I was in looking at.

Is there any information kept for LEOs in this regard? Are CHLs more or less likely to be convicted of a crime than LEOs?

I have never found comprehensive crime statistics for LEOs or any other profession. I've been looking for a long time. I'd like to see the numbers for lawyers, judges, elected officials, and physicians.

I'm wondering how many of the convictions are related to items that only affect CHLs, like intoxication, or carrying where they shouldn't? I'd really like to see an itemized list. Mainly, because a local leo friend, who might be in a position to know was saying alcohol/ bars was the main source of revocations.

Another thing to remember is that people are often convicted of multiple offenses. You might have 500 convictions for 330 license revocations. That's only 1.5 offenses per person. Someone carrying and arrested for DWI would be convicted (assuming proven guilty) of DWI and carrying while intoxicated. Two convictions for one person. If they ran over someone, add a third for intoxication assault/manslaughter. That also makes it harder to get the percentages right, because the OP was assuming one conviction per person. Most of the people in TDCJ weren't convicted of only one offense.

Sorry Chas if this means more work for your staff in figuring out the numbers.
