Re: Carrying your licenses
That's a good idea. Especially since the two are issued by the same agency.

Re: Carrying your licenses
Its not required to have a drivers license to have a CHL, to make that a requirement would be unfair. The willingness or abilty to drive should have nothing to do with the right to carryMolon_labe wrote:Usually it takes alot for someone to loose their license to drive
Make the CHL flag another "classification" on the drivers license, this way I can hand the officer my drivers license and have it say CLASS: CM (CHL) and then in his computer the CHL number is tied to the drivers license in the database (as long as it isn't fed out thru public knowledge)
Usually to loose your license you have a pretty high misdemeanor or other law trouble that would almost guarantee a loss of the CHL as well.
Then when you renew your drivers license on your birthday, you renew your CHL as well.
It would take a HUGE paperwork trail and other logistical problems out of the beaurocrats hands, and would give LEO's INSTANT access to know if you have a CHL or not, if this was "the norm" for all states..kapow..they run your out of state license they know if you have a CHL or not...right? No drivers license when you get pulled over..you get to spend some time in the popo till the problem is figured out..even if you forget your wallet you KNOW your TDL# right?

Re: Carrying your licenses
Another consideration. The idea was to keep who had a CHL secret (except for Law Enforcement purposes). Noting the CHL on the DL would defeat the purpose, since anyone who you handed your DL (i.e. cash a check, use a credit card, etc) would have knowledge.

Re: Carrying your licenses
I think the penalties should be reversed. Unlicensed drivers seem to be a much bigger problem in Texas than unlicensed carry.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

Re: Carrying your licenses
I feel that the penalty for no drivers license should be raised to that of the CHL.
