Yeah, that all made sense. I can see how you could draw pretty fast like that with practice. I've been working on my Smart Carry drawing myself.

I almost never wear button down shirts so I don't think that would work for me. Although, if I get this job over the summer I might have to start dressing up more often. I can only hope...

Mail man just left usual bills & junk mail. No CHL. Oh well there's always tomorrow.

Reysc: That's a great idea about the sewn on buttoms and the velcro.

Flatland: Reysc gave a good description on how to wear a Kangaroo. Go to http://www.gunblast.com for several pictures of it being worn. You have to go to the archives to find the article. Great site. Every time I go there I find good info. Jeff quinn knows his stuff.

I'll be camping out by the mail box tomorrow. Hope the neighbors don't mind.

An alternative to sewing velcro on your dress shirts is to buy western style shirts with snaps, instead of buttons. With a little looking, you can find western shirts that will work fairly well as dress shirts (ie. the less flamboyant ones).

I am both lucky and unlucky in that I work for the Windham School District, so no carry at work once I get my CHL. (I get hit twice at once, since Windham is the school district for TDCJ: school and prison at the same time.) But that means that there will only be a select few instances where I would need to carry and have to have a tucked-in shirt. So, for me, IWB carry is the method of choice.

I have been wearing my CCW rig around the house to get used to it while I'm waiting on the folks in Austin to do their job.

Day 60.

Called DPS and spoke with someone almost immediately. Her first question was "has it been at least 60 days," asking in a way that she wouldn't entertain my request if it was less. I said today is the 60th day and she said it's still processing. I mentioned that previously I was told I had paperwork waiting to come in which she double checked and confirmed. She also said they are behind 2 to 3 weeks on processing applications. My hopes for a timely issue are gone, but I'm still excited in waiting for them to finish. So, that's the latest from Texas DPS.

Is that counting every day, or just working days mon-fri?? I'm on working day #65 and still waiting. I can tell you my access pin by heart and my fingers fly over the keys now to enter my SSN and license info. It's worse than waiting to get that new pistol out of layaway. I should be used to the old....."hurry up and wait" Thanks for the update.

Update !

My online "status" changed this morning from "Processing Application" to "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active". In my previous post, I had stated I called Tuesday and DPS said it was to be sent the next morning. So, I guess the Web status change indicates indeed the processing is complete.

I too can "keypad" my DL #, SSN, and PIN quickly after checking 3 times each day, (morning, afternoon, night...yeah I'm obsessed !).

Now, where the heck is that Mailman already ! ! ! ! ! !

I've been counting every day. I don't recall DPS ever making the distinction that they have 60 business days to process an application.

Congrats sdmahr! DPS recieved my application 5 days after yours, so I have some of my optimism restored. I know processing time is pretty much luck of the draw, but I can still hope...

While I'm at Academy I'll pick up some ammo, browse the firearms, pick up some targets, cleaning supplies, and, and, and, and.

There seems to be no system at DPS. I'm at day 94 and they said it was ready to mail last Friday (3/31/6). No CHL yet. Status changed yesterday to "Application Completed - Lisence issued or Certificate Active". Maybe today. Wife got hers in just 54 days. Mine, if I get it today, will have taken 40 days longer to process. All the time I hear about people getting theirs in 60 or so days. I don't understand why some whistle through and others just seem to languish in never, never land.

I think it's just who's desk your ap. lands on. We are going to E. Texas this weekend to look at some properties. If my license arrives Saturday it will just have to sit in the mail box untill Sunday night.

As someone mentioned in a previous post, We've lived a long life without a CHL. Guess another few days won't matter. NOT!!!!!!

Just read the posts regarding Academy. We went there yesterday and would you believe wife bought another gun. A BUG. Taurus PT22 pistol for $189.00. It's cute, if your into cute. Prices at Academy are pretty good.

I snagged 100 rounds of 9mm shells. 50 fmj's & 50 jhp's. Figured I better buy them while they have some stock. They were totally out of 380's but believe it or not, they actually had some Federal Hydro-shok. Also bought a can of Break Free & a can of Gun Scrubber.

If I don't stay away from Academy & the gun shows I'm going to have to get a part time job!

Jbenat,
I hope your CHL get's there today, but your wife has her already and as you said we have been with CHL forever, soo???Needless, to say I we all share the sentiment. Speaking of gunstores and gunshows ( older boys' toys r us) I Iagree it could be expensive but guns keep their values... have you tried getting hooked on electronics?? PCs, and yes Cars and car accessories???? and you can't sell them for half the price you paid for..So, let's all go to the gunshow!!  .. Serously, I'm looking for a good G17, the big brother of my G26... I promised myself I will get one when i get my chl... Then what do I do w/ my P89???

Investing 101

Post by jbenat »

Reysc. You are right. Unless you just pay way too much or buy some goofy gun, they will retain most of their value and they are very easy to resell.

A while back I got interested in die cast cars, mostly 1:18 and a few 1:24's. I wound up buying about 90 of them and I have six shelves of them lining the walls of my office. Great conversation peices though. I will be selling most of the collection soon for about half of what I paid for them just so I won't have to move them. Not a great investment at full price but someone is going to get a deal when I sell them.

I'm not known as much for my investment ablities as I am for my extreme good looks and modesty.
