Who would quit their job

#1

Post by petroleumag07 »

The moment their employer posted a 30-06 sign and wouldn't allow CHL?

I would, immediately after asking that it be taken down.

I am lucky to be in an industry where I have plenty of options, so my view might be a little jaded.

Being on the downside of a long and undistiguished career, I wouldn't hesitate to quit, I can always find another job like this.

I would as quickly as I could afford to do so -- money or another job or certain prospects.

Probably just start looking but quit only when I had the next job lined up.

I would not quit right away. INstead, I would do my best to educate whomever made the decision to post the sign and the person that'd make the call to remove it, if not the same person. If they refused to see the light, my resume is standing by.

I would certainly start looking for something else, and then I would quit. I wouldn't leave my job without having another one lined up.

My company doesn't own the building that I work in. I would have a discussion with building owners. However I would not quit my job.

Ok...out of curiosity...those of you who said you would quit...how many of you are currently working for a company that has a no guns policy? Granted, a policy not written in the words of 30.06 would not land you in jail...but you could land in the well-fare line.

As soon as that policy took effect at my former company I tried to educate those involved. And they were using non-compliant 30.06 signs (correct wording, just too small) in the office. I started looking and did quit on account of that policy. Next question? Yeah, I put my $$ where my mouth is - except I got a raise out of the deal.

For the first two months that I had my CHL, I worked for an employer who had a written no-guns policy. When I got that job - 1 week after getting my CHL - I had been out of work for 3-1/2 months, and I had a family to take care of. I love my family more than I love myself, and I will do whatever it takes, even if it means having to put up with insults to my own rights in the process in order to keep a roof over their heads, food on the table, and clothes on their backs.

During the 3-1/2 months that I was out of work, I had a severance package, so our financial picture was not totally bleak. But, it did take longer than I had hoped for to find a job in my area of expertise, at a salary I could afford to accept, and I took the job at this "no guns" company (at a lower salary than I could afford) when the severance money began to run out.

Fortunately, my boss fired me two months later for which I sincerely thanked him (we were both unhappy with the arrangement), and two weeks after that I started my own business. My business has a guns friendly policy, and I encourage anybody who might need my services to be armed when we meet... ...because I sure as heck will be.

Not me.

I do still carry and am very careful. If I am fired (which is the most that "they" can do to me), I'll have a new job tomorrow. Do what you have to do.

These days I work at Home Depot, and have several offers in a similar pay range, so moving on would not be a problem. Home Depot has a "No Weapons" policy, which includes knives and other things they consider to be weapons, and also the parking lot is off limits.
