He took the info of the suspect and Dallas Police found him about a half mile away still flippin out.
What part of Dallas were you in?
I don't pull unless I am going to shoot.
What?? I hope you meant you don't produce your weapon unless you're
prepared to shoot. There's a big difference.
I will not risk going to jail, if avoidable, because L.E. doesn't know or care about the law.
What exactly do you mean by this statement?
I've been in situations like this several times in Dallas (off duty) and have done exactly the same thing. If the thug is a true predator and he sees you put your hand back where a gun would be, in most cases he will back off. They want an easy victim. Now if he's not very observant or is high on drugs and is willing to do whatever it takes to score, then it just might take pulling your gun and pointing it at him. If you pull it you'd better be prepared to use it because some criminals will read you like a book. If they don't think you will shoot then they just might call you out and you'd better be prepared.
Not knowing exactly where in Dallas this occurred I can see myself doing just what this fellow did. If I had driven up and witnessed it, based upon this scenario I would have told him he did a good job of protecting himself and his family. I would have arrested the suspect for robbery if the complainant was able to articulate the elements of the crime as he did here.
The majority (large majority) of Dallas Police Officers are fed up with the crime we have and are constantly telling each other that we wish more people would get a gun so as to protect themselves from criminals. Every time some thug is shot by a citizen who they're trying to victimize is a win as far as we're concerned. That's why the CHL and Castle Doctrine laws were written in the first place.
Everyone that steps foot in Dallas should be prepared to defend themselves and not rely on us to do so. 3,200 cops can't be everywhere and watch over 1.2 million people. Once 911 is called we become report takers and fugitive hunters. The odds of us arriving to a location while a crime is still in progress is somewhere between slim and none. And as the old saying goes, "Slim already left town" so in this case you're pretty well on your own.
You'll read or hear about an incident that happened tonight in what we refer to as our NW Division. A delivery driver who has a CHL was jacked up by a thug. Thug went for his gun, CHL holder got to his first. CHL holder is alive and well (as good as can be expected after a shooting) and the thug is in the hospital and might not survive. Again, that's the way it's supposed to work.
