Completed CHL Class-Now

#1

Post by Chickenman »

Real proud of myself here. Finally got around to completing the course. I shoot often but only Springfields mostly .45 and some in .40 I know I don't want to carry one of those around all day.

I like .40 round and wanted to know, since there are tons of options and makers, if anyone had seen a compact recently that looked interesting.

Any opinions on the Heckler? Can't tell you why but never have liked the 9mm. Am I being short sighted.

I feel comfortable with the .40 and have confidence in it.

I will be waiting for a while so I have time to look around.

Thanks for any help

I personally prefer the .40 Glock 23 just the fact that it carries the punch,it's lightweight, and preety good compact design as well.

+1 on hte glock in .40...

I carry the 27 which is the sub-compact...

I like the hk's, but they aren't as "durable" IMO as the glock, the glock's ability to take a beating, fire when dirty and overall reliability is why i chose it... I love my sip239 in .40 as well, but for carry the capacity and durability of the glock is what i want... when you add the interchanging mags from the larger size frames and the ability to carry spare mags that almost double the capacity of your primary they're simply great

carry what you shoot best. If that's the hk, sig, glock, XD, etc.. do so...
if your a good shot with all of them, carry the one that fits the bill the best...

with my 27 i've got 11+1 in it,(+2 extensions) and my spare mag is from the full size g22 and carries 15more.

I'm also leaning toward the Glock 23. I've just got to save up the cash to get my hands on one. I shot a Glock 35 yesterday, and it was a very enjoyable experience... not as much fun as the Desert Eagle in .357 magnum, though. I just don't think that one would be easy to carry concealed. ;-)

If it is just the 9mm round you are concerned about, I was the same way until I found the Cor-Bon Pow'rBall round. It has better ballistics that the standard .40 rounds. It is plenty hot and packs one heck of a punch! You can see the stats here http://www.dakotaammo.net/products/glaser/powrball.htm . The 100 grain 9mm Pow'rBall has 483 ft lbs of energy vs. their 135 grain .40 at 526. However, the Federal Hydra Shok 135 grain .40 only has 432 and the Speer Gold Dot 155 gr 496 ft lbs. All are pretty close and the 9mm is lighter. I carry a Kahr PM9 that only weighs out at about 19 ounces loaded with 6+1

It is said that if you line up all the cars in the world end-to-end, someone would be stupid enough to try to pass them

Congrats on your plastic. Why not want to carry one of those all day? I carry my XD 45 service all day, everyday, no problems at all.

I have a .40 Beretta (PX-Storm) and I love it. It shoots very smooth and is extremely accurate. The guys in my class were commenting on my grouping. It truely was the gun. (I did have to point it in the right direction  )

There is a .40 Beretta that is "compact" and it looks pretty good for conceal. I do not conceal my PX-Storm because of the size but the compact version looks like it might carry different and still have the knock-down power.
