Laws Riding a Greyhound Bus While Carrying
Moderators: carlson1, Charles L. Cotton
According to an acquaintance of mine, Greyhound occasionally performs a "voluntary search", where passengers have a choice of submitting to a search or not boarding the bus.
This may foil my plans of carrying a concealed firearm on my trip next week. Does anyone know how frequent these searches are, and whether the CHL card has any sway on the searcher?

Not legal according to 18 USC 922(e), the same law that makes it illegal to carry on an airliner.

Ah, but it's long established that if it could be in interstate commerce, the law applies.pmw wrote:if my Greyhound trip is from Dallas to Houston, then it's neither interstate nor foreign nor commerce.any common or contract carrier for transportation or shipment in interstate or foreign commerce

This is NOT posted in an obvious locatin, nor is it 30.06
It is located inside, to the back, by the staging area where you wait for departures.

Try telling that to the TSA when you fly from Dallas to Houston.pmw wrote:From that link,CleverNickname wrote:Not legal according to 18 USC 922(e), the same law that makes it illegal to carry on an airliner.if my Greyhound trip is from Dallas to Houston, then it's neither interstate nor foreign nor commerce.any common or contract carrier for transportation or shipment in interstate or foreign commerce

Would the driver have to recite the 30.06 verbatim? OR just say no guns?flb_78 wrote:If you get on the bus and the driver does a little welcome aboard speech and it included that guns are not allowed on the bus, then you would be in violation with concealed carry and could be prosecuted.

just has to say "no guns" when it's verbal.lawrnk wrote:Would the driver have to recite the 30.06 verbatim? Does the driver have the authority to issue a legally-binding verbal notice? Penal Code 30.06 says, "a person receives notice if the owner of the property or someone with apparent authority to act for the owner provides notice to the person..."flb_78 wrote:just has to say "no guns" when it's verbal.lawrnk wrote:Would the driver have to recite the 30.06 verbatim? Does a Greyhound driver have apparent authority to act for the owner? I am leaning toward yes.
