Went in and noticed that they had a completely non-compliant "no guns" sign (it wasn't even close, but it did make reference to 30.05). Well, I didn't let it stop me from test driving but I am going to let it stop me from purchasing there. And I will let the internet sales manager (CJ - the person I spoke to) know why. I doubt it will make a difference, but at this point the big 3 in Detroit can't afford to lose ANY sales. Did you hear about GM's loss this morning?
You are correct.
The "Covert's" are an old "Austin" family and are fine folks. If anyone wants to know where they stand on the 2nd Amendment they can call Rox, Duke or Danay, they'll be happy to tell you.

They can say anything they want, but the signs speak louder than anything they could say.flintknapper wrote: You are correct.

It does not speak AT ALL regarding their stance on the second.Liberty wrote:They can say anything they want, but the signs speak louder than anything they could say.flintknapper wrote: You are correct.

Re: Covert Dealership
This sounds familiar. Kinda like what I was chastized for saying about a certain spicy food establishment that I will not name anymore. And a car is a purchase you don't make as often as food. Some people want to boycott a car dealership but they don't want to boycott a restaurant. Go figure.Keith B wrote:The answer is simple; don't enter the store. Then, call them, ask for the store manager and even the district manager if it is a chain, and advise why you will not be patronizing their business. If enough people boycott the store/chain, they may change their policy. If not, then they lose customers.
The choice is yours.

I guess I am at loss to understand how forbidding firearms from a particular piece of property equates to non-support of 2nd Amendment rights.
I haven't lived in Austin for quite some time now, but I am sure the Covert's own 4-5 dealerships by now. Undoubtedly, any signage is simply a business decision made for the sake of insurance purposes.
I can tell you for certain they are "reasonable" people, so anyone wanting to discuss the matter...can just call them.

I really do not understand what the big deal is about private businesses having a gun buster or no gun sign.
They mean nothing to a CHL in Texas and you can walk right in.
Concealed is concealed, right?
I doubt very seriously if it is an insurance requirement. if it was, most businesses would be posting, and most would be 30.06 compliant, because insurance companies are run by lawyers, and lawyers tend to read laws.
The only businesses that really seem to have a handle on 30.06 are hospitals, and I would be willing to bet that most hospitals have very good lawyers.
I have stated before that Texas has more gunbuster signs than pretty much any place I travel. I do not think it is lawyers.
Not wanting to sound negative, but I think it is ignorance of facts on the part of those who hang them.
The way this thread is headed, the only firearms that gunbuster signs keep from entering establishments are those carried by valid CHL holders who use it as a reason to feel excluded when they really shouldn't.
Just my devalued $.02 worth.
Anygun

Ancira Chevrolet in San Antonio prohibits customer carry as well.
Puts my RKBA and Private Property Rights advocacy at loggerheads. Regardless, I did tell the sales manager that I did not really appreciate it, and pointed out that gun free zones are much better places to find mass shootings than places where CHLs are allowed. He laughed and said "I wish I could carry here, too."
They'd have to come in substantially lower than any other dealership... and even then I'd need to discuss it with someone up the chain to understand their motivation.
When I see a gunbuster sign, it is more than just the weak, ill-informed attempt to exclude some people... it is there also reinforcing prejudices against guns to the non-carrying general public.

OK, I would like to know what you think they mean by that sign say then? Are they saying they are all for you exercising your right to carry?txinvestigator wrote:It does not speak AT ALL regarding their stance on the second.Liberty wrote:They can say anything they want, but the signs speak louder than anything they could say.flintknapper wrote: You are correct.

Too me it isn't about whether we could legally carry inside or not. Being legal and being welcome are two different things. When they post that sign they indicate that that they don't want us in their place of business. Covert has it stated in his signage that they would prefer that we stay away. When CHLers stay away, we are only complying with their wishes. There are too many car dealers for us to have to put up with this nonsense. and unless Covert understands it is costing them business they won't ever take the signs down.anygunanywhere wrote:I really do not understand what the big deal is about private businesses having a gun buster or no gun sign.

No it doesn't. It means they prefer you leave your gun in the car.Liberty wrote:Too me it isn't about whether we could legally carry inside or not. Re: Covert Dealership
As I said multiple times; it does not speak to their stance. They don't want you to carry in there, and it is not your right to, nor is asking you not to asking you to give up your 2nd amendment right.carlson1 wrote:OK, I would like to know what you think they mean by that sign say then? And many CHLers would rather not disarm themselves. Its a simple equation , there are other dealers. They could remove the signs if they want CHLers business. Posting those signs is public statement that the bussiness of those who prefer to carry 24/7 isn't as important to them as some other concerns they may have. I don't know why they are concerned, but it doesn't really matter there are other more gun friendly dealerships.txinvestigator wrote: No it doesn't. The same goes for other businesses, There are some folks of principle that refuse to go to Taco Cabana's that have those silly signs. There are just to many other places to spend our money than to give it to those who would disarm us.

In the orginal post it appears to me that they have posted against the unlawful carrying of weapon's and not against CHL's.
That's OK with me.

[Ronald Reagen] There you go again [/Ronald Reagen] The signs don't mean, in any fashion, that they don't want CHLer's business. To keep insisting that does not make it true.Liberty wrote:And many CHLers would rather not disarm themselves. Its a simple equation , there are other dealers.
