I think the whole thing is stupid... Attending the largest gun convention in the country and then strip law abiding citizens so you can speak at the event. I'd rather they stay in the white house and speak from there and have them televise it on NRATV... At least that way they wouldn't look like such hypocrites. I understand the whole secret service laws and stuff but it doesn't make them look any less like hypocrites imo...SQLGeek wrote:They would if they could but they can't.Grundy1133 wrote:They either need to post 30.07 signs on their buses
SoccerDad, I am not saying the NRA is powerless but let's look at the gravity of the situation. Both the VP and President are coming to speak in person to the NRA meeting. Why would the NRA shoot themselves in the foot politically (again) and turn them away? They wouldn't and they shouldn't.

The press would spin things in that scenario as they would just say that even POTUS or VPOTUS didn't want to be around the guns. It really is a no-win scenario when dealing with the MSM. I still plan to go. I still plan to look around at all the vendor booths, possibly get some autographs from a few 2a celebrities. Perhaps even meet up with some forum members I have yet to meet, and hang out with some I've had breakfast with before.Grundy1133 wrote:I think the whole thing is stupid... Having them appear in person at the convention carries a stronger message of support than a video. Besides, this is one event at the convention... 2 hours out of a 3 day convention... not really the end of the world like some on here are trying to make it out to be.Grundy1133 wrote:I think the whole thing is stupid... Trump was my 15th preferred GOP candidate, but I'll vote for him again because of the above.

Yea but in that situation would you rather the MSM say "POTUS and VP don't want to atend NRA becuase of guns" or "POTUS ban guns when speaking at NRA convention" i guess either scenario isn't favorable....Flightmare wrote:The press would spin things in that scenario as they would just say that even POTUS or VPOTUS didn't want to be around the guns. He beat Hillary in the election... that right there is huge! Had Vegas and Parkland happened with Hillary in the white house, we would be complaining about a whole bunch more than bump stocks.BBYC wrote:Remind me again what Trump has done for gun rights as POTUS, other than attack (currenty) legal accessories?SQLGeek wrote:[Both the VP and President are coming to speak in person to the NRA meeting. Well, "POTUS ban guns when speaking at NRA convention" is a straight up lie... And if the media is reporting outside of the area that is controlled by Secret Service, I bet some open carriers would walk through their shot just to prove it.Grundy1133 wrote:Yea but in that situation would you rather the MSM say "POTUS and VP don't want to atend NRA becuase of guns" or "POTUS ban guns when speaking at NRA convention" i guess either scenario isn't favorable....Flightmare wrote:The press would spin things in that scenario as they would just say that even POTUS or VPOTUS didn't want to be around the guns. As I have said, I'm planning to go and look around. Hopefully the POTUS and VPOTUS speeches are broadcast to TVs elsewhere in the convention so that others may watch.

I'm only dismayed by the fact that as a carrier, I have to be disarmed either then entire time at the convention, or leave the firearm in the vehicle for the speaking event. The folks going via the Mugger Mover (DART), don't have such an option.
Be funny if they had a good ol' gun-check, like the days of old.

I am a producer for German TV in the U.S., and given the topic of this discussion, I thought I'd share a story we are working on. Given the wall-to-wall coverage of student gun reform protests recently, we are working on a story about high school students/teenagres who are arguing to defend the 2nd Amendment and who are against more regulations of gun purchases. I will be in Dallas this week for the NRA convention. Is there somebody here who could put me in touch with students who can talk about their positive feelings toward guns? We feel like this perspective falls way short in the national media coverage, and we would like to do our part to change that. So if anybody can help, I'd appreciate any leads. My email address is lgesing@ard-usa.com.

You may have better luck contacting some of the local gun ranges to see if they would allow you to talk with their youth leagues. This is one of the better ranges in the area http://www.shootsmart.com/home/events/
Honestly, I suspect you'll find that many parents are unwilling to allow their kids to be interviewed on such a volatile topic. I would expect the social media backlash to be vehemently negative.
So.... where do you prefer... Boulder or DC?
