CHL (LTC) Renewal Question

#1

Post by jocat54 »

My CHL expires 1/29/2018 so thought I would be proactive and start the renewal process now.
When I go to the login page and enter my DL and DOB it only gives me the links to change info or apply for a instructor license. What am I doing wrong?
I thought I read where you could start the process 6 months in advance.

Duh!!! It just dawned on me that it is over 6 months by a couple of weeks :???:

You can't go online until 6 months before it expires. You will also receive a letter stating you can start your renewal process.

Thanks Keith, I guess I was having a senior moment.

Try again in about three weeks when your LTC will be within six months of expiration.

I was just going to ask this same question (no option to renew), but I am actually under the 6 months by a couple of days. Guess I will try again in a few days.

FWIW, I called today because it still does not give me the option to renew on line. I was told that you have to wait until you get the renewal notice AND that it could be anywhere between 5 and 6 months before it's the renewal that it is sent out. In other words, you can't automatically do it on line at the 6 month point unless you have that notice (or it has been sent).

FWIW, I was able to renew on line about 6 days after the 6 months out had come up. I got the notice in the mail a few days after that. I received the renewal LTC today. So just under 3 weeks from when I did the on-line thing. Also, all I have on file are the old ink fingerprints, but they apparently were ok.

Same here; they received all my paperwork and fee using my original printed fingerprints on July 19 and I had my LTC in hand Aug. 4. Sure beats the old days when it took 2-3 months. :thewave

I filed the application for renewing online on 8/1 and received my letter from DPS on 8/5 and everything is going as it should reviewing background and awaiting printing.

My original CHL expires 3/16/18. I've been checking the DPS site and today the link appeared. I've renewed. Looking forward to getting my first LTC!
