Petty Officer Robert Dean Stetham. Killed aboard TWA flight 847 almost 30'years ago. Wanna know why he was killed? Cause they found his military ID on him when they searched the wallets. He was the FIRST PERSON taken out cause he presented the most harm.

SAME EXACT THEORY WITH OPEN CARRY!!! When the bad guys rob the place and see you with your open gun they're going to pop you first. And go ahead and tell
Me how you're going to shoot first before they take it. I'd have to take off my shoes to count the number of times I've been to S shooting where the victim had his or her own weapon used against them. Literally dozens!!!

Was in a Waffle House in Jackcon, Mississippi (complete low-rent town) and on the night shift for the PD. Just so happens that it was my off night but couldn't sleep so went down to meet my partner for midnight breakfast. While in the restaurant the guy we'd been looking for what had a warrant out for strong armed robbery came in the eat. Two cops eating right next to him five feet away. DANG GOOD THING WE WEREN'T OPEN CARRYING!!! Cause he clearly wouldn't shot at us first if we had. Yes, when we got him he was armed.

Two...I went to Ole Miss but I live in San Antonio. So I have no dog in the University of Texas argument. But I can say 100% the people I know that work with that went there got a FIRST RATE education. Literally first class. Two of the brightest people I know went there. So don't bash them too hard cause you'll likely work sometime in your life for someone who went there and they'll sign your paycheck.

Three...did I emotion OC is dumb? In fact, when off duty before I retired I hid my weapon as soon as I could when I drive away from the precinct. Last thing I want is Joe Shmo to remember I arrested him and he then believe taking my weapon in front of my wife and kids in a good idea cause he can see it since I'm OC'ing and showing it to God and everyone. Heck no on OC. In fact, most of the time I flat out debt I am armed and dang sure deny being an officer. Tell them I work at Pizza Hut.
Calling open carry dumb based on what you have stated is un-realistic. There have been many studies that have concluded that a person openly carrying is no more of a target, and more times than not is actually less of a target. Most criminals want to face the least amount of resistance in their quest to break the law; a person with a gun could potentially be a pretty big deterrent. I don't open carry myself just because I don't care for the unnecessary attention associated with such.

1- no reason to yell
2- theory is just that
3- show me more than just one or two cases over the past 10 years across the entire US, where (other than a uniformed security/police/ similar, where someone OCing was singled out and got "popped first"

Let's take this from theory to reality

I won't comment on your opinion of OC, but in reference to your comment about UT alumni just remember they may sign the check but the CEO and/or their boss is going to be an Aggie  What does a Longhorn call an Aggie? Boss!

Yep! No personal experience with GBRA, but I have a friend who doesn't hold them in high esteem.

It's seems to me if a person if committed to murdering someone during a robbery, why wouldn't they just shoot the first customer they see to show everyone else they mean business? :headscratch

If a government agency that rules over public recreation areas deserves trashing it isn't LCRA it is COE! COE is the prime example of a federal agency infringing on our 2A rights.

GBRA, LCRA publicly attacking them without reason seems irresponsible. I have worked with a few LCRA folks and they have always been courteous, professional and very helpful. COE people always seemed pretty nice, and we disagree with their written policy, but really I haven't heard of them going after and pursuing, gun totters, and they seem to do a real good job of the things they are chartered to do.

Now if we want to attack out of control agencies, let's talk about local PDs setting up speed traps for revenue enhancing, or out of control DAs going after political leaders. As near as I can tell LCRA, GBRA and COE are good people and make our world just a little bit better. If they do something that is wrong or offensive, they become fair game to be attacked publicly for their specific actions but to wholesaley condemn them for unspecified actions isn't right, although I believe we all know what the beef is with COE.

I am interested in the "many studies" you reference that "concluded that a person openly carrying is no more of a target". Where can I obtain a copy of these studies? With the recent attacks on uniformed police officers, I am not convinced that openly carrying a firearm provides any deterrence. Just as I am not convinced that criminals fear the death penalty or the death penalty provides any deterrence to criminal activity.

While I have no problem with people that openly carry, I do have a problem with the unnecessary attention given to open carrying. I do not openly carry because I do not want to draw attention to the fact that I have a firearm. Nor do I want to lose an element of surprise if some low life decides to threaten my well being or the well being of my family.

Man, this thread sure took several turns off topic since I last read it!
The left lies about everything. Truth is a liberal value, and truth is a conservative value, but it has never been a left-wing value. People on the left say whatever advances their immediate agenda. Power is their moral lodestar; therefore, truth is always subservient to it. - Dennis Prager

Agreed! I "open carried" in uniform every single day before I retired from the department and so did the rest of our officers on patrol. Didn't stop fights and shootings. So clearly open carry and the shaking of a weapon is no deterrent. Just ask Dallas PD of it deterred. Not being harsh! Just reality. Open carry deters nothing.

In fact ALL Secret Service agents conceal carry and they have to protect daily those protectees from people that want to shoot them.

So in that reality neither concealed nor open carry mean a darn thing. Criminals will try and get your gun or shoot you first no matter if you CC or OC. Period.

You don't think that at least in this political climate, that law enforcement might be slightly more vulnerable to attacks than the average joe schmoe with a big iron on his hip?

Edit: doesn't your post back up OC as much as it detracts from it?
