Conceal Carry at Collge graduation ceremony?

I plan on attend a Summer graduation ceremony tomorrow at a TTU. The event will be held at the Arena here on campus, from all the laws I have read, I am legally allowed to conceal carry b/c there is no sporting event going on at that time, just a graduation ceremony.

As long as they didn't post it 30.06 while determining their "exclusion zones" you're correct, it's not a sporting event and you're good to carry.

It may be posted anyway, I believe that they listed that as a prohibited area. I could be wrong, but I would check it first. It could be along walk back to your car. I was there for a graduation a year ago in May, and there was no close in parking available.

That will be true unless the university has flat out made the arena off limits. I think from what I've read on a few of these policies that folks have put up here that they have all done just that. I was hoping that I would be able to also do this very thing if OC had passed in 2011 or 2013 because I had several nieces and nephews graduating high school and all of their ceremonies' were at college arenas. However, since the universities have been allowed to decide that some places may still remain off limits it was moot since most all of them placed their arenas off limits sporting event or not.

Well it's not part of the exclusion zone, but I was just hoping not to see a 30.06/30.07 sign at the door when I go there.

Assuming that the venue was not declared off-limits by the university in question, I'd still probably not carry since it was a high-school-sponsored event.

From what I found ticketed "performance venues" can be granted temporary exclusion if requested. Other events may be granted temporary exclusion with notice 90 days in advance.

I'm feeling it's going to be hit or miss on a graduation.

This was my thought as well. If it's a college graduation and not posted, go for it. If high school, I would leave it in the car.

If I remember correctly, the penalties are also much higher than just carrying past a 30.06 sign (which is also illegal, and I'm not advocating doing so).

I hadn't even thought about it as a "school-sponsored" event only as a "non sporting" event.

I do not see the arena explicitly listed (it is referenced by 'Any Sporting Event' or 'University Event Where Alcohol is being served" etc
