TSA Precheck with LTC

Headed to the airport on Sunday. Went through my normal checkin routine with AA. Checked in at the kiosk and got my boarding pass and baggage claim sticker. Proceeded to the counter to check my bag and after the agent checked it, he said "the TSA Precheck is down at Gate xx."
I didnt think much about and went through the normal security line. The TSA agent checked my boarding pass and ID and said, :you can leave your shoes on but keep your boarding pass in hand when you go through"

I was wondering what was up and the agent said "you're TSA Precheck approved"

Funny thing is, i never applied for that and this is the first flight i have been on since my LTC was approved a week or so ago. As I was walking to my gate, I saw several TSA Precheck posters and noticed that it had the "Identgo" i think it was called, logo. Isn't that who does the LTC fingerprinting?

So....I am wondering if LTC gets you on the TSA Precheck list. If so, that's pretty sweet.

I guess I will see on my next flight whether that was a fluke or not.

No it doesn't help. They just randomly select some people to speed processing. I also heard from a "friend" that if you are pre-check and you leave a 9 mm magazine in your carry on, you'll probably get kicked out of pre-check.

In theory it shouldn't have happened this time as TSA announced early Spring that they would be ending random Pre-check add ons as it leaves those who pay for it feeling as if they've wasted their money. Will be interesting to see if it does happen for you again then.

My kids (minors) would get pre-check regularly but have never applied. Always made them laugh to go ahead of us through security. Now mom and dad have Global entry, which includes pre-check.

Whatever the algorithm is, I'd be surprised to hear that LTC was a positive trigger.

Scott, you are correct. I read it (and other things your pre-check can be suspended for) in the application I did online Monday. I was fingerprinted and approved yesterday for TSA Pre-check. I thought it would take several days or weeks to get my KTN, but I had it in about 4 hours after the ID check and fingerprinting. It will be well worth the $85.00!

Profiling is one of the most valuable tools. To throw it away....... I don't understand.

Yes my friend had (and has) Global Entry, but has not received Pre-Check since leaving said mag in his carry on...

I personally have had my minor children get Pre-check even though not in the program, and I believe they continue to do it randomly for passengers whose INFORMATION meets a certain profile. I have heard that the profile criteria is not public and changes based on many factors.

Anyway, back to the Pre-Check helping with LTC...no it doesn't, other than if you pass the Pre-Check criteria you're likely to be qualified for LTC.

Certain credit cards will pay for GE as part of your card benefits. Also if you travel a lot for work, your employer might be convinced to cover the cost of GE (or Precheck). You can justify it by not having to leave client meetings as early.

I received my CHL a few months before my trip to New York and I wasn't TSA pre-check approved.

My wife and I always get pre-check when departing from our small town home airport ( I have LTC, she does not), and we never get it coming back. Go figure.

Interesting, my return flight showed as TSA Precheck also.
I guess future travel will tell me if it was a fluke or not.
I was reading some on the TSA site and it references "risk-based" screening several times.
It actually makes sense for them to include other screening data into the program.

Oh well, things that make you go, "Hmmmm"
