Some people don't realize that not everyone at a place that serves alcohol will partake in drinking the nectar of the gods.

If they won't budge, neither should we. Keep those complaints going to the AG, let him fine the county $10k/day.

The signs are not enforceable either way.
Keep calm and carry.

Agreed.

The Rodeo is rich with cash. It's also run by a bunch of political muckety mucks who would be happy to either make it a fight or pay the money.
Here they are, with the stated purpose of raising money for kids' scholarships, yet they see $10K/day as "money well spent" on illegal signage.
The funny thing is, the cash will come from the county, not the Rodeo. The county would then have to fine the Rodeo for continuing with the unenforceable signs.

I have a friend who is one of the Directors (there are like 12 Directors in all) and he said he was just leaving it to the "legal committee". I told him the legal committee was way off base on this one, and they were wrong.

The whole thing is a mess now too. Getting in the BBQ was a nightmare. These mindless zombies with their wands who have no idea what they're doing are bogging down the entrance, and those of us licensed, are unable to carry without at least a fight on our hands.

I had to park quite far on Saturday night, and I was NOT happy that I was 'forced' to walk exposed and unable to defend myself when arriving and leaving the BBQ. This had better get 'fixed' before next year!

There's a pretty simple solution to that. Don't go. Don't support them with your money. Wednesday is Military Appreciation day. We get out of work for the day and can attend the rodeo, eat and take our family for free. I'm not going. I'm not going to spend any money at a places that knowingly and willfully breaks the law and violates my rights. I won't even support them with my presence. Until HLSR decides to stop violating state law, I'm out.

The county will have to pay the fine, but I have to imagine that the lease includes a clause prohibiting illegal activity on the part of the lessee, especially if the Lessor (property owner) is criminally liable for that activity. If not, then they really need to amend that lease!

If anyone is actually detained by security for carrying past the invalid signs, the Rodeo should be criminally and civilly liable for that action, correct? That has nothing to do with the property owner.

So you spoke to an admitted criminal who has no apparent remorse. Since he is part of the HLS&R leadership, maybe they will get classified as a "gang". But they are well connected politically, so probably not.

I don't know where people get the idea that just because alcohol, is served or consumed, that they have cart blanch to prohibit handguns. the Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, made the decision to allow both CC and OC during their run, there was all the usual hew and cry from the media, and all of the maternal females requesting strongly for movement, claiming massive deaths resulting from all of the cowboys totin six shooters suddenly opening up on all of the children, and the pro-beer but anti gun crowd claiming massive shootouts between all of the over served folks there. The FWSSAR only prohibited carry in areas already prohibited such as the arena etc. There were no shootouts, no cattle were injured during the show from stray bullets, there was no panic in the exhibit hall, drunken armed cowboys didn't ride through the midway firing indiscriminately at people on the tilt-a-whilrl.

What did happen was they set records for attendance, set records for grand champion purchases, provided fun and entertainment for everyone who wished to attend. and showed how we can all just get along. I wish all other cities would take note, and realize that there is room for all of us.
I truly hope that all of your efforts there in the Houston area pay off, and I hope that next year there won't even be a discussion about it as ya'll walk through the gates while carrying. :tiphat:

You know what is frustrating, they said kids & disabled people will be there, those would be in the list of why you WOULD WANT more LEGAL ABIDING CITIZENS CARRYING, just kills me some peoples thought process.

Well, it is supposed to be our Attorney General, but he's apparently worthless at enforcing the teeth that were put into law this year. I'm so frustrated with him… :mad5 :mad5

I wonder if there's a way to put teeth into the AG next session on lack of activity enforcing the law. :smash:

My google-fu isn't that strong today, but isn't the AG still fighting a personal legal battle over that securities case?

I don't know that this would be an acceptable excuse for the exceedingly long time it is taking to actually enforce the laws on the books. But I am willing to hear a justifiable reason if one exists.

I'm wondering if it's time to kick this up the Governor's office and the original bill sponsors. Maybe they can explain why there hasn't been any enforcement action by the AG 6 months after the bill became law.

What we need is some gun friendly media to bring this out in the open. Unfortunately nothing like that exists.

I'm planning on sending an email to the bill author & sponsors later this week inquiring about the AG's delay.

Just got off phone with Captian Lucas, the complaint has been received and sent to the attorneys, he said they really have not ironed things out yet, and could take some time with the lawyers. He stated the law was not well written and the attorneys must hash this out. He thinks the law allows a lessee to have full control of 3006and 3007 in or on government property's. I am not sure his opinion matters if he follows the law but I would want a pro gun person in his position. He is the person in charge of this operation. And yes there has not been one fine issued as of yet. So do not count on this going anywhere. Maybe some day
