Half Price Records & Books--30.06/30.07
My wife and I had occasion to visit the Burleson location for Half Price Records & Books today to sell some books back and purchase some more. We noticed some new editions on each side of the entrance as we parked. A 30.06 sign on the left and a 30.07 sign on the right. I went went ahead and disarmed, leaving my weapon in the car. I am sure these are new. I asked Management about them and was told that is something that the corporate office had sent out because of the new open carry law. I informed that it was pretty lame to post both when they were only trying stop open carry which I understand since there a large number of children that come here. I told her that I had concealed carried into their store many times without issue. She said there was nothing she could do since the order had come from corporate. I informed her that this would be my last transaction with them until they changed their policy. She said she understood, and that I should inform corporate of my unhappiness. I will be sending them a email, although I don"t really expect anything to happen?

I believe both the HPBs that I go to in San Antonio always had gun buster signs or wording. Never a legit .06. Haven't been there this year but I will check them out. I think they've always been anti, just never had it brought to their attention that the signs had no effect on licensed carriers before.

This is HPB's reply to my E-mail about their new signs.
Thank you for your email. Half Price Books has had a long-standing policy making all of our stores and facilities weapons-free. This policy will not change in 2016, though we are now posting signs in our Texas stores that are compliant with the relative statutes starting on January 1st.
We know this is a sensitive issue and understand that there are many different viewpoints on the subject. However, it is the policy from our corporate offices, to our warehouses, and to our stores that weapons are not allowed on the premises. As you mentioned in your email, we decided to do this for the comfort of our employees and customers.
Again, thank you for contacting us.

Funny how they say it's a longstanding policy and now the Texas stores are complaint......when they are a Texas company! If it's a long time policy wouldn't the stores in the state you are based be compliant first ? It's just more bull

If you are truly disappointed with Half-Priced Books management, take the time to send real mail instead of just email. Sign it, in ink. Let them know that there's a real person behind the sentiment. Email is easy to ignore -real mail a little less so - and you tend to get a copy-and-paste reply.martywj wrote:... And yes, my real mail letter to Half Price Books is in the mail.

If I really wanted to spend some money there I might make the effort. I can take or leave HPB. Without the sign I'd spend money there, with the sign I've got Amazon and ABE and I don't have to leave the house. At this point there are still no businesses that have posted 30.06 that I can't live without.n5wd wrote:If you are truly disappointed with Half-Priced Books management, take the time to send real mail instead of just email. When a business posts a 30.06 sign they've told me they don't want my money....whether they did so knowingly with that intention or because they're so indifferent to those of us who carry they didn't bother to get it right is irrelevant to me.
If you ran a business would you post a sign that potentially drives customers away without determining exactly who you were driving off? However the signs came to be posted they tell me they don't care about my business so I will simply go elsewhere.

At less than 3% of the general population, it will have no effect on HPB.

I rarely shop at HPB but I sent them an email anyways. Got back a response that wasn't the copy and paste that others have posted.
This was the response.
"Thank you for your email, we certainly respect your opinion on this issue. Your sentiments have been forwarded along to our operations team and executive committee. "

It sounds like the anti loons in Texas got their community organizing skills together and are canvassing every single business they possibly can. They are armed with the whole nine: emails, personal visits, boycott threats, mass promotion of a vendor or vendors producing and installing compliant signs.
Someone posted on here a couple of weeks ago about his wife's shop getting an threatening email from an anti nut customer. Curious to see if that situation is still in play.

They are working overtime hitting the businesses and trying to coerce them into putting up compliant signs. State Senator Menendez is still out promoting and passing out anti gun signs.

I didnt even get a reply from the store in McKinney. My wife and I went there every Friday or Sat night for the last 10 years and usually spent close to $100 but no more. As I said in my email amazon will enjoy my money for books now.
Re: Half Price Records & Books--30.06/30.07
I've stopped going to HPB.
I've been buying used books on the internet from "Abe Books".
Often, the cost is very low ($3.00/3.75 or so) for a book with, very often, free shipping.

I have bought some books on Abe Books also and gotten very good prices.
If you are a college student or have one, sometime you can save a whole lot of money on textbooks.
I bought a chemistry textbook book that the publisher lists for $220 and paid about $35.

My very best source for books: The library
Almost daily, we download Audio books to our MP3 players or download e-books to my NOOK.
Listening to Audio books is something I do throughout the course of every day. It makes tedious chores, not tedious. In fact, in can turn a tedious chore into a fun chore.
