Do you carry at home?

If I'm planning on going somewhere that day, I carry from the time I get dressed to the time I go to bed ( outside of the shower of course). When I work around the house, I am either carrying or have my Tomahawk close to me.

Not as often as I should.

When I leave the house I normally carry from the time I leave until bedtime. I need to get into the habit of arming first thing in the morning.

Not always, no. But if it's not on me, it's on the table beside my chair in the living room. All the rooms I frequent have a weapon (or two) within easy reach as well. Bedroom, bathroom, and office. (No kids in the house)

My caveat, of course is that I live in a very quiet, low-crime suburban neighborhood. Perhaps if I lived out in the country, I might feel different about it.

I live out in the country. My house is 1/4 mile back in the trees off of a black top road, and I'm 30 miles from the nearest LEO response (unless a deputy is nearby on patrol). Me and my neighbors are pretty self reliant. We have to be. Generator for the house/water well, clear the roads when need be, etc., etc. If somebody comes to my place without me knowing they are coming, it's probably someone I don't want there.

If I lived in similar circumstances, I would probably feel exactly the same way. But I have the admitted luxury under my current circumstances to not have to live that way. OTH, and I've posted this several times, my plan is to buy a large piece of rural property in the next 5 years or so, and so my situation may well change; and if it does change, then I'll adapt to to it.

I'm not criticizing those who carry in the home at all times. I'm just seeking to understand why they feel the need. So Lynyrd, what do you do when you're asleep?

Yes, always. Even when working in the yard I am armed.

I can reach a gun and a tactical light without getting out of bed. There is a laser on that gun, and the light will BLIND you (1300 lumens). I practiced enough to grab both with my eyes closed.

TAM, I love you like a brother, but I am feeling criticized. I am reasonably certain that you did not intend to come across as condescending and intrusive, but that is what I am feeling.

What I hear you saying, in this and your other posts in this thread, is that because you don't understand my decisions, my highly personal decisions are somehow invalid.

My decisions are as valid to me as yours are to you. My understanding of your decisions has no effect on the validity of those decisions. Your lack of understanding has no impact on me whatsoever.

I have an intimate understanding of my capabilities, limits, conditions, and circumstances. I have neither the inclination nor the requirement to defend myself to you or anyone else.

I have conducted my risk analysis. I have considered my strategic and tactical situations. I have determined which risks I am willing to manage and which benefits matter most to me. This is an evolving process that adapts as life presents diverse challenges.

I am in about the same situation as Lynyrd, by choice of course. I am armed anytime I am out on the place, handgun and or shotgun and or ar15, you just never know what you may need. When I come in the house from OCing on the place or CCing off the place, I continue to wear until I turn in for the night. When not carrying in the house, one of the above mentioned options is just a reach away.

While I'm not Lynyrd and you didn't ask me, I will tell you what I do. At night I have a fairly obnoxious blue heeler with alpha issues with people she doesn't know sleeping beside the bed. Any sound not normal in or outside of our house at night, she goes ape-poop. She will wake me with plenty of time to reach for any one of many firearm options.

I carry at home for the same reason I carry out and about.

I have security doors, which will stop a baseball bat, but that doesn't mean that after repeated attempts to break in, they won't finally get through.
Of course, they could skirt the doors and break through the windows, which still should give me a few seconds, but still not enough time to call 911 and get the cops to my house before they get in.

I tend to agree as to moving out of a negative situation.

My view on carrying, though, is that I carry not because I am required to do so but rather because I choose to do so. I do not "need" to carry. I need to breathe. I find it prudent to carry. Since I cannot accurately guess when a violent threat may present, I use my firearm as a control to reduce risk to a manageable level for me. I am certain that others, presented with the same information, would decide differently.

We each must decide for ourselves which risks we are willing to manage and which benefits matter most to us. Y'all carry your way and I will carry mine.
