Please remind me which rule sets that 6 month time limit.

Never mind me.I was mistaken. That 6 month thing is for renewals and modifications. However a class does have a time limit and its 2 years. Something tells. me you dont have a problem.
The sitting through a 8 hour class can SUCK this is fact. But, to post a test on the Web is scary also. Just because a person has a "clean" record to aquire a CHL means little when alot of these people should be wearing football helments, mitts and riding the little bus to get to the class! Not all applicants mind you fall under the mentally impared catagory, but many do. I wish the class had have been longer to answere more of my questions. Maybe that 8 hours is enought if they would limit (or shoot) the ones that eat up all the class time with meaningless banter.

An 8 hour class is not long enough, it's suposed to be a min. 10 hour's max. 15 hour class.

Young People pratice to get better, Old folk's pratice to keep from getting WORSE. Me
We haven't got ours yet, as we ran out of time, I have been practising at the range to make sure my aim was good enough, we were just about to apply for the course, and my company pulled my contract early so we have to move back to the UK. UK, no guns, ooo. DH is so upset, its like taking all the toys from a 2 year old.

You know, I'm sure some people would balk at that idea but I don't think it's so bad at all. After all, you are being tested on material that's written. It seems the class can be distracting with a lot of knuckleheads asking crazy hypothetical situations and confusing people about what the law really is. I guess the major problem would be ensuring that somebody couldn't cheat because you know if they got their license and were later arrested for doing something bad then it would all come back down on the CHL program.
Of course like you said you'd have to sign up for a range qual to shoot but that would be much less time consuming than spending all day at a range/classroom.
I attended the classroom portion of the class last night and having to wait for a renewal shooting class in order to qualify (I have to work tonight and the shooting portion for my class is tonight) Anyway, the way I see it, all we did was sit there and read through the laws in the book. I could do this ONLINE and take a test afterwards and be just the same. On the other hand, Im kind of paranoid now that the CHL is merely a way for the govt. to know exactly who has a gun and where it is at. Either way, Im still taking the course and paying the scam of a fee to have the right to carry a gun.
Another way to look at it is, now the government KNOWS your (and all other CHL holders) position on gun rights and with sufficient numbers of people willing to pay the cost and take the class, politicians will be more careful when considering laws that affect gun rights.
This is the main argument that overcame my reluctance to paying for a permit to exercise a right enumerated in the 2nd amendment.
Reasonable gun control is hitting your target with the first shot.
Getting a broken clavicle the week of my class :(.
Time and $$ is a factor, but Wildscar having found a good $50 class that is one 10 hour Sat will help (Sats are manditory at my work, but during slow time I can get off and besides it is for a good cause). Being lazy at times hurts, but again Wildscar will make sure I do not slack in this when I get healthy. It is also nice to have him make heads and tails of the hoops to jump through.
I was concerned about the possibility that having my name on a list of gun owners could lead to confiscation, if the wrong people were elected/took over by other means.
Plus I didn't think I needed one because I didn't go to the "bad parts of town".
After my wife had a couple of "encounters" with illegals, she decided to get her CHL. After thinking about it, I decided to take the class. After all, I didn't need to get the certificate.
After completing the class and the range time, decided to send in the application. Now in the waiting room.
