So some of you may have heard; there were two armed robberies this week at UTA. Both events occurred in the parking area I use and both happened in broad daylight while there were many students about. I find the boldness of these acts a bit unsettling. I HATE leaving my pistol in my car, especially with these sorts of things goin on.
Now, let us just suppose that someone were to accidentally forget that their tiny undetectable p938 was in their pocket when they walked into school. What would be the penalty if caught? Will it be any different when the penalty for carrying past a 30.06 sign is reduced?
I'm not saying I would ever do this, but dang...the first robbery occurred at 5 in the evening and the one today was at 3...about the time I was walking there!!!
Just a bit freaked out that's all

The penalty for unlawful carry is either a 3d degree felony, or Class A misdemeanor, depending on the circumstances.

You are a CHL instructor and you do not know the answer to your question?! Or are you just asking for a second opinion? To my knowledge, there has never been a case adjudicated regarding prohibited carry on a college campus.

I was just ranting. I know it is a Nono but was really just wondering if the penalty would change with any new upcoming laws like those which reduce the penalty for violating 30.06/30.07.Photoman wrote:You are a CHL instructor and you do not know the answer to your question?! I sometimes struggle with thoughts of personal protection vs. legal responsibility; in the end, I would never willingly break the law unless I felt my life or the lives of those I love were in immediate danger. But geese, this hits kinda close to home.
I have a suspicion that when campus carry is enacted, the committee who decides what areas are off limits will do their best to ensure our rights are so restricted that caring on campus is generally impractical to the point that it becomes prohibitive.
In light of these recent events, one might think that campus carry would be better received by groups generally opposed to the idea. Sadly I'm skeptical about this as well. This campus is, from what I have experienced, rabidly anti gun.
Hopefully the perpetrators of these acts can be brought to justice...till then I will keep my head on a swivel and hope for the best.
To feel powerless and vulnerable is new for me; for when I was younger I was always protected by my youthful invincibility.

I will bet my bottom-dollar (metaphor for you literally minded guys) that there will be litigation over the new campus carry rules when they go into effect next year concerning where you can and cannot carry. Hey, good for the lawyers eh!
